Joe Klein on "McCain Meltdown"
I don't normally agree with Joe Klein, but this seems spot on:

link

John McCain said this today in Rochester, New Hampshire:

"This is a clear choice that the American people have. I had the courage and the judgment to say I would rather lose a
political campaign than lose a war. It seems to me that Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign."

This is the ninth presidential campaign I've covered. I can't remember a more scurrilous statement by a major party candidate. It smacks of desperation. It renews questions about whether McCain has the right temperament for the presidency. How sad.

2. When and if Mcsnort "goes down", who and what will take his place?
Surely this rotting gop campaign can not continue on its present course.

3. Klein's not the only one who noted this; I'm happy for that.
Tweety even suggested McGaffe was questioning Obama's patriotism.

And earlier, John Kerry said it was 'insulting'.

4. No Klein fan, but he gets it here.
McCain and the Repukes have nothing. Nothing.

That's why they are imploding (especially Rush).

By the way, for anybody who missed the tape, McCain gave that slithery smile at the end of this statement.

Surprised that foam didn't come out of his mouth.

9. This McShame was read on Nightline following the Obama interview.
I could not believe what Keating-5 McShame said. He might as well have called him a traitor (another New Yorker cover?). Americans won't forget how McCain put the country last when he was at the banker's trough.

The quote was related to the fact that, as Obama noted, the surge benefited from good timing because the Sunnis and Shia stopped fighting at that time. I've seen other columnists/bloggers mention that the ethnic cleansing had ended by the time the surge started.

But it seems that every nasty thing he attempts just bounces back on him. How delightful! Instant Karma, anyone?

12. While scurrilous, it isn't really any different than wingnuts have been saying since...
Joe McCarthy. Anyone who doesn't support a war that they like is an anti-American Commie coward.

13. poor mccain. he's doing exactly when el shrubbo got away with for so long
shrub always demonized his political opponents, lumping them in with the enemy better than mcarthy ever managed. and the vast right wing noise machine always echoed the message faithfully.

and yet, when mccain does it, it falls flat, with a great big thud.

the emperor never had any clothes. but somehow, nobody's really calling shrub on it, they're just ignoring him. but when mccain parades around in the same suit, everyone just laughs at the naked fool.
