Can Obama broker a peace deal between the Israelis and Palenstinians?
Can he do what so many have tried and failed to do? What, in your opinion, would make him the ideal person to get er done?

1. Obama can divide by zero

He can reverse time

He can be in two places at once

He can solve pi to the one-billionth place on a cocktail napkin.

Of course he can broker a peace deal. With one diplomat tied behind his back.

2. The fact that we have an intelligent man who wants to exercise "diplomacy"
is so fine by me. I'm giddy at the prospect.

3. #
1.) This probably belongs in I/P.

2.) Any permanent peace deal ever will be born of both sides being tired of the fighting and willing to give-in on 90% of their demands.

3.) Re: #2. No US President has the ability to "get er done", only to get in the way...like Bush has.

5. That's why I said "broker", as in be an "honest broker"
between the two. And of course, the United States WILL have its hand in any dealings that occur in the negotiations.

8. I don't feel we can resolve this...
they have to work it out themselves. This, I think, has been our past mistake...trying to broker a solution. We need to NOT have our hand in the dealings but act as the mediator while they work it out non-violently.

It's a lot like dealing with small children. Both sides have to fear the repercussions of not settling this peacefully. Ever watch children argue? They fear what the adult will do...ultimately, the adult has to do nothing. Any action by the adult is perceived as unfair (and biased against them) by both children. We're the adult.

4. No, only the Israelis and the Palestinians can do that

But unlike a certain current occupant of the White House, Obama would do everything in his power to help the process along instead of hindering it should the opportunity come.
