CBS/Katie Couric edits out McCain Gaffe & then provides fake answer for viewers to cover for McCain
Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 07:00 AM by EV_Ares
This one is hard to even explain, it's so bizarre. McCain, looking just awful on camera, made yet another major gaffe about national security policy, on CBS. So what did Katie Couric do? She aired the interview with McCain, aired the question that led to the gaffe, and then inserted an "answer" to the question that wasn't the real gaffe-filled answer - it was something McCain said in a total other part of the interview. It's absolutely astounding how far the corporate media is willing to go in order to defend John McCain. And seriously, take a good look at McCain in this video, I was kind of shocked by his appearance - he doesn't look well at all.

Yet, he bites the hand that feds him, calling them unfair. What a fucking joke the media is in this country.

26. He just left McClatchy last month. BTW - it's the production offices that host GOP planted
employees. That is where the editing decisions are made and what stories and events get coverage. Some may remember that the Hardball 'PRODUCER' who directed the coverage of 2000's campaign ended up as a hire in Bush's WH. I would say he was hired by BushInc years earlier and placed at MSNBC with full knowledge of Welch and his thugs.

I don't doubt that every network newsroom has its planted operatives. How else could it be that NO NEWS NETWORK would cover Kerry's speech to the Firefighters Convention in 2004? EVERY news network making the choice to not air that speech attacking the swifts and Bush? EVERY news network making the choice to give minimal coverage that the speech even occured?

Someone once said that newspeople were easier and cheaper than prostitutes.... the powerful who need to keep the truthtellers from being heard are now in near total control of this nation's newsrooms.

87. TV Guide April 2000: Military Interns Booted From CNN, NPR
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 08:14 AM by rocknation
...CNN and National Public Radio were more than a bit surprised when they learned that their organizations had used interns from...the United States Army's Psychological Operations unit (PSYOP)...A highly specialized unit of the military, PSYOP personnel are often trained in the production of videos as well as television and radio programming used to advance American policy abroad...

According to CNN executives and military officials...(a) total of five PSYOP sergeants were assigned to the network...At NPR's Washington, D.C., base, three PSYOP personnel worked...from September 1998 through May 1999 on such programs as All Things Considered and Morning Edition.

The CNN internships were scuttled shortly after reports of the military presence appeared in February in...a French publication and...a Dutch daily newspaper. "As soon as we discovered were here, we put an end to it," Jordan says...(A)n NPR spokeswoman...(says)..."They performed minor tasks and had no influence on our news coverage, but when our senior newspeople found out they were here, they decided it was inappropriate; and we terminated the program."

7. If the MSM weren't a bunch of shamelessly biased McCain-loving kissasses
they'd be beating the "McCain makes constant gaffes concerning foreign policy; can we trust him to be a competent President?" drum constantly, daily... God only knows if *any* Democrat had made the # of gaffes McC has made the media would have jumped on it immediately. Remember their constant framing of multiple Gore stories in 2000, w/ Gore being "uncomfortable in his own skin; he'll do or say anything to be Pres."; they resorted to creating Gore lies that weren't really lies and twisting anything to fit the narrative of him being a lying slimeball. The media is supposed to love easy frames that help them tell stories, right? Well, with all of McCain's gaffes staring them in the face, I just can't see why the media isn't jumping on the chance to frame him as too out-of-touch and senile to be President. I mean, they do want to be "fair and balanced," right?

16. This is far worse than the Tex. Nat. Guard flap that sunk Dan Rather.
I mean, it's one thing to shorten an interviewee's answer to air only the part that specifically answers the question asked. But it's something else again to delete the answer given and replace it with other verbiage entirely.

That is simply a case of Katie Couric blatantly manipulating the facts to create her own reality -- one that protects McCain from his own lies and/or historical inaccuracies.

If she feels it's okay for her to snow her viewers in this way, she deserves the axe.

After all, they've got to make it look like McCain is still awake and aware of what is going on.

I'd like to see what McCain's reaction would be if he were taken to Disneyland.

I'll bet he'd be just like any other 6 year-old kid, happy, excited, and thrilled to see all the rides, but too scared to try many of them.

"Whee"
"Wow, look at that one, it goes fast!"

Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 07:47 AM by Major Hogwash
When CBS, one of the members of the mainstream media (propagandists), didn't like the answer that McCain gave to Katie, they just made up one of their own - from other comments given during the same interview.

That's not even very creative.

Because, as we all know, this is how Max Headroom was created.

LoL

John "Max Headroom" McCain!!

His tv speeches are just clips spliced together while he was talking to himself during a stream of consciousness session when he was barely conscious.

Katie Couric and the company she works for have lost all journalistic integrity. It might have been ok if they left out the question entirely, but to modify the answer in an outright lie. Is literally fabricating the truth.

was overturned. Maybe somebody should tell CBS they really don't have to cover McCain's Ass.

64. I have to give MSNBC credit... At least they covered it...

And I've was only home today for about an hour.. But during that time, I caught half of David Schuster, and half of whoever it was that came on before him.

Both of them mentioned the editing done by CBS.

Does anyone know if CNN reported on it?

66. you missed the threads about Scarborough, didn't you?
he went after people who discussed the whole fiasco, and implied that Olbermann and Abrams were among the geeks and idiots who don't understand the history of the area, and much worse, to boot

67. Yep.. I just logged on a few minutes ago.. But I did see Schuster and I think it was...

...Contessa Brewer (or one of them?) reporting on how CBS modified, deleted, changed, edited.. the response from McInsane earlier today.

I can't stand Scarborough and I wish they'd can his ass!!!

So.. Abrams and Olbermann both covered it tonight? ..If so, good for them!!

Hand out subpoenas, whine, and then look disgruntled on tv.

They're getting really good at it!!

71. Did CBS do anything besides put the "actual" transcript on their website?

...I heard David Schuster -- -- say that they were showing the "un-edited" video on their website...

But is that all they did?

Did they apologize, or even mention it on their evening news tonight??

Anyone know?

73. Is CBS serving the public's interest by manipulating
(via deliberate editing) the facts of a story to benefit a Presidential candidate?

Sounds like an FCC violation to me. This is an act perpetrated by CBS network news. Over the air, not cable.

76. Couric has been kissing up to Bush.....
from the very first broadcast. I watched and taped the first week of Couric and never watched CBS News since. Eventually, I stopped watching CBS, NBC and ABC. I dismissed Fox News as total nonsense before Bush and even before I had any idea that it was biased. It was just obvious nonsense.

They have a reporter standing next to a burning paper bag and call it a flaming inferno. It's all BS.

PBS is the only TV News Source that I will watch. I don't want to be entertained, I want to be informed when I watch the news.

(I kept the first week of Couric tape for my own reference.)

83. My e-mail to CBS Evening News:
evening@cbsnews.com

Hello -

Please allow me to add my voice to the chorus you are surely hearing decrying your egregious violation of your own explicit guidelines regarding the presentation of interviews on the air. We know what you did. You edited together a question with the answer to a different question in order to make McCain sound better and to conceal his inadequacies from the American public. This is not journalism, this is political advocacy.

We have learned to use quotation marks when discussing the Fox "News" Network. Evidently we will have to begin referring to CBS "News" in the same way, now that you have blatantly violated your own standards to pump up a flawed Republican candidate.

Thanks for nothing, CBS "News."
