Nunn is a bad choice for VP - takes away our argument tnat McCain is too old to be Prez |
|
First, I'm not ageist here, I just truly believe that John McCann is too old to be president. I think someone the same age of John McCain is capable of doing plenty of things in this world but being leader of the US is NOT one of them. I mean just look at Reagan's last year - he was nothing more than a puppet put out there to speak while a covert administration did his job. Do we really want that again?
Nunn is not much younger than McCain; I believe by only 3-4 years. But we put Nunn on the ticket suddenly we take away an arguement that many people have agreed with me on (some of them registered republicans) and that is "McCain is too old". I'm even thinking that Biden borders on being too old himself, but still a possibility.
I'll still support Obama if he picks Nunn, but I think there are better choices out there.

People don't vote for the VP. It won't make a difference.

why would Barack want to saddle himself with an anti-gay, grouchy, right winger? To say nothing of the fact that Nunn has no personality. Absolutely nunn.

10. Because he might feel that Nunn would get him elected |
|
But that wasn't the original question.

2. An interesting "unscheduled" meeting today |
|
between mccain and LA Governor piyush lil shit bobby jindal (who is idiolized by limbaugh.) If mccain picks piyush scratch any experience argument against Obama. jindal is 37, served in congress for one term and has been governor for six months. I agree about mccain's age, way too old to be President.

6. Jindal kinda frightens me as a VP |
|
This guy is so far over the edge conservative/religous nutjob that he could take away some of the evangelical voters that Obama is starting to pick up.
Plus god forbid *gasp* something happens to McCain. You think it was bad under George Bush - I think it could get alot worse under Piyush Jindal (can you believe someone was called racist for using Jindal's given name - yeesh! Talk about selling out your heritage!)

7. piyush supposedly is the evil zealot future of the gop but |
|
if he keeps pissing off the LA state legislature his Nova flame may burn out before the end of his first term. And his young amateurish wiseass staffers have done an outstanding job of pissing off the wise old political commentators in the state and in just a few months. His "leadership" skills were quite invisible during the last legislative session.

3. "Yeah, Sam, hi, it's Barack. Say. I'm interested in driving a wedge into the |
|
GOP vote totals in Georgia."
"Uh-huh."
"And we were thinking, 'Hey, if Barr runs maybe 4 or 5%, Sam Nunn would give us some ballot clout in Georgia, and maybe in other states,' and wondered if you would be the vice presidential nominee."
"Why, Senator Obama, that would be splendid. I'd love to."
"Yeah. Good. But there's only one catch, Sam. You'd run on the ticket and then resign before the re-election campaign."
"Oh."
"Right. So it would be a 4-year gig, not 8. we'd replace you with a genuine progressive in say, the summer of 2011 or so."
"Oh."
(long pause)
"Sam? Sam? You stil there?"

4. I think Georgia is far too gone for us to win even with Sam Nunn on the ticket |

I think we have better chance winning some southern states like Virginia or perhaps North Carolina

5. Hi, LynneSin. Agree. I think we have only an outside chance in Georgia, |
|
and that NC is more possible and Virginia within reach.
I like our chances in the West, too.

8. Ignoring ageism, Nunn is the wrong choice on the issues.... |

Bob Graham, however, has equal or better qualifications, none of the baggage, and could help carry Florida.

We need someone to help us carry swing states like Ohio, Colorado and New Mexico--Georgia is gone and even Nunn cannot help here.

14. It won't be Nunn anyway. It's good for our chances in Georgia |
|
for his name to be out there. OTOH, his name is almost always on the "short list" whenever a dem has to pick a running mate.
He is way to conservative and way too old. He also hasn't been involved in national security issues for a long time. So there's no way he'll be the pick.
