Poll question: Without focusing so much on names, what TYPE of veep will McSame select?
I see several different veep strategies he could employ. I'm hust wondering what the prevailing wisdom is here.

3. I just heard he's gonna put Cheney in charge of finding a candidate.
He has experience at doing that, ya know.

Wonder who he'll select this time.

4. Young black woman with some experience. IOTW, Condi.
But she would be so easy to campaign against. The "Bin Laden determined to strike the US" memo, the oil tanker named after her, the mushroom cloud, etc.

So, what's best for McCain is also the worst for McCain. Besides, I don't think she'd do it.

With that, we're back to square one. That's why I think it'll be Romney, since he's rich and has some dim hope of bringing Michigan along with him. OTOH, many fundies think LDS is a cult, so that might scare them into voting for Barr.

8. I think the fundies are conflicted
They don't like McSame...

They don't trust Obama

They think they are one SCOTUS Justice away from having Roe overturned

They know they've been badly used by the GOP

You're spot on about many of them thinking LDS is a cult, and I think GOP strategists underestimated the blowback they'd get on that. Honsetly, I was surprised that folks like Dobson didn't back Sam Brownback more strongly from the outset.

I think Brownback could be a shrewd pick for McSame. He's Catholic, but appeals strongly to fundies. He's young by comparison. He has impeccable conservative credentials, but his views dovetail with McSame on things like the environment.

13. Those poor fundies don't know who they can cozy up to. They
have all been taught that the Catholic church is evil. Fundies believe that worshipping Mary is a sin and that they elevate the Pope above God. They believe that Catholics aren't really born again Christians because they believe they can "work" themselves to heaven. I was raised fundy. At that time, our minister taught us that the Pope was the antichrist. Then we moved to a more fundamentalist church that said the Soviet Union was actually the antichrist. After that, our parents moved us to another church, where it was explained that the antichrist doesn't appear until after the rapture, so the Soviet Union and the Pope couldn't be the antichrist. And at least that version is accurate according to Revelation.

But you are quite right about fundies being able to tolerate Catholics more than LDS. Because (they believe) that Catholics may be misguided but at least they worship the same god. According to my relatives who are STILL fundies, Mormons don't really worship the Christian God. If they did, they wouldn't need a different Bible. And so it goes...

The only thing that binds those groups together is being anti-choice. That is it. And if more Catholics and Mormons knew what fundies really thought about them, even the abortion thing couldn't hold that coalition together.

I'm rather enjoying the bind they're in.

14. I think three things bind them
1. Abortion
2. Gay marriage
3. Some kind of tax credit or voucher support for religious schools

9. Whoever says yes.
Seems he's having some problems finding someone to run with him.

I think it will end up being Romney because Mitwit is too arrogant to believe the Repugs can lose.
