Questions about Ageism and if we are being unfair to McCain.
It's a fact of life that as you get on in years, some of your capacities get diminished so for this one reason alone I think it's okay to bring up McCains age.

If some don't agree, I want to ask whether they would support a 9 year old to run for office.

21. He's up for a job that can age him 20 years in 4; I can't imagine the stress his body would undergo.

2. Not being unfair. Age is a completely valid issue.
My parents say he's too old - they know what they're talking about. The body and mind slow down. They can't imagine being his age and being able to handle the demands of the presidency.

5. I agree but it does come up ,.. last night Joy from the View was filling in
and Fran Dreshcher (sp?) was on the panel for a while and took such offense at 'ageism' in regards to crits about some things McCain.

I just think you'd have to look at both ends of the age spectrum and then makes more sense.

3. It's not his age that's the issue. The issue is maturity.
And he has none.

12. something that just popped in my head.
Hillary had the sexism thing to run with, and Obama the racist one, both of which did have some kind of influence on the race and to all in life in general -
so McCain has to have an 'ism'! wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! it's not fair.

4. For some, wisdom and judgement come with age.
For others, advancing years bring reduced capabilities and senility.

It's important for the country to know which track McCain is on. Personally, I think he's two stops from barking.

17. They should know, huh.. in this century and

8. My husand is the same age as McCain
And I can tell you that some of his mental capacity has declined.
That is a simple fact of life.

Add to that the physical demands of the job and the fact that a 2 term
McCain would be 80!!! years old-no way would I vote for anybody that old
to run the country (leaving politics aside - I wouldn't vote for McCain if
he were 52.)

10. Actually, I Think Age Is Being Used To Cover Up McCain's Dishonesty
I think the agist remarks are actully a convenient excuse. Whenever McCain makes a mistake (usually in his favor), he just blows it off as a senior moment, rather than a convenient lie.

13. I've noticed that too, the 'poor old man, give him a break' thing.
that dont fly with me when that poor old shakey thumb that is connected to a seized up brain, is hovering over the red button.

11. Seriously - we don't want 50 year olds enlisting in the army
Why should we want a 90 year old running the army? People get old, they lose certain faculties. McCain is not a clear thinker nowadays. Bad enough that he's a republican...

14. Is it age or is it mcsurge? And I'm
thinking Senator Frank Lautenburg here.

Are mccain's gaffe because he's too old for the job or he's having a hard time keeping his lies straight and gets flustered?

If you tell the truth you have less to remember.

15. It's not about his age, but rather the fact that he is incompetent
as evidenced by his numerous gaffes, his obvious lack of command of basic facts, his infamous volcanic temperament. I can think of another guy with the same problems and he isn't old- George W. Bush.

The REASON for McCain's incompetency doesn't matter, because just like Bush, he lacks the intelligence, skills and temperament to be a good president.

16. Don't think it's his age though, he really is that stupid
He made gaffes on foreign policy like referring to Czechoslovakia during his 2000 campaign. Even an idiot like Bush was able to use McCain's gaffes against him. McCain is a professional pander who is not smart enough to keep up or tie together all the BS he throws out to different groups. It's not that he's old, he's just dumb as a stump.

18. I saw Mandela speak on TV a day or so ago.....

...he was clearly sharper at age 92 than McCain is. It's not just age, but sharpness, alertness, and the ability to speak without confusion that is important. Bush didn't pass this test, and neither does McCain.

19. In McCain's case it's not the age that's the problem.
The problem is that he STARTED stupid. And nothing miraculous has come along to change that.

22. Some people age well, mentally and physically. Some don't.
And McCain is one of the ones who don't. Pretty simple, IMO.
