Does Tweety understand US demographics?

He keeps scoffing at Obama's visit to Germany - "I don't know how impressed people will be seeing him greeted by Germans - HA!" - as though he's visiting some kind of pariah country that repulses most Americans.

Guess what the biggest ethnic group in the country is? Yep. Germans. 23% of Americans share German ancestry, almost 8% more than the second most numerous ethnic group (Irish - sorry, Tweety, we outnumber you!).

The German-Americans in my family are going to be planted in front of the television for his visit, and yeah, it's exciting. Tweety is parroting the "Old Europe" and "chocolate makers" insults of the Rummy days, and it's insulting and offensive. Obama's visit is going to bury the neocon trashing of Europe and it's about goddamn time.

I live in Ohio, and I do pay attention to politics, and I'd never heard of Ridge until he was in Bush's administration. Why in the world would THAT make me vote for McCain? Ditto for Rendell. "Eddie could bring in Ohio." WHY? I don't know a single person who would vote for McCain because of Rendell or any other politician from a neighboring state. Gimme a break. At most they'd influence PA voters, but come on. He needs a vacation.

The single biggest ethnic group in the US is Americans of Anglo-British ancestry; the original British settlers mostly emigrated during the 17th and 18th centuries, and their descendants for the most part don't have any sense of 'ethnic' identity, thinking of themselves as 'American' (but names like Jones and Williams and Edwards and Jackson are very much of British Isles origin). Collectively 17th and 18th century British immigrants probably have well over a hundred million descendants in the present American population.
