WSJ: Republicans' Grip on Alaska Is Weakened
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 09:43 PM by L. Coyote
You know it is way worse for the Corrupt Bastards Club that the WSJ will ever write!
The headline should be "Republicans in Alaska (CBC) Losing their Grip"!

Republicans' Grip on Alaska Is Weakened
By JIM CARLTON
July 24, 2008 - http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121686107825679439.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Two Republican lawmakers have famously served Alaska's interests in Washington for more than three decades: Sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. Don Young. But there are signs that Alaskan voters this year may be ready to follow political changes taking place in the rest of the country and opt for a clean slate.

Both men face the malaise afflicting many other Republican incumbents: voter disenchantment over the country's stewardship under the party. Republicans lost control of Congress in 2006 and stand to lose more ground this year, with once-safe seats like these in Alaska facing serious competition. In all, Democratic strategists are seriously targeting this year as many as 11 of 23 Senate seats now held by Republicans and up for election.

Alaska is also emerging as a presidential battleground state, with polls showing Democratic candidate Barack Obama narrowly trailing Republican John McCain in a state that has leaned Republican in recent years.

Messrs. Stevens and Young have another challenge: Both lawmakers have been investigated in regard to a corruption scandal ...............

1. Hahahahaha..Beautiful! I love it! Even if Barack does not win
there, at least the Republicans will probably lose seats there. LOVE IT! I hope we have a landslide. That is one day I would absolutely watch Hannity and listen to Rush. Beautiful day that would be.

10. His dad was the congressman but died in a plane wreck. I remember
it. I know his brother Nick real well. They are so damned smart, these Begich boys, that it makes you squint to look at them. They are good union and good dem men, all of them.

11. The bad news for Berkowitz is that he may not get Young as his opponent
Some of the Republicans were concerned that the scandal-ridden Young might not be able to hold the seat. The Lieutenant Governor of Alaska is challenging Young in the Republican primary (August 26).
