RASMUSSEN: Daily Tracking Poll for July 25th shows a 5 point bounce for Barack Obama

Friday, July 25, 2008

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows a bounce for Barack Obama. The presumptive Democratic nominee attracts 46% of the vote while John McCain earns 41%. When "leaners" are included, it’s Obama 49% and McCain 44%. Just three days ago, the candidates were tied at 46% (with leaners).

This is the first time that Obama has enjoyed a five point advantage since July 8. It’s also the first time he has reached the 49% level of support since that date. In June, Obama’s support stayed within a point of the 49% level virtually every day and the Democrat typically led by about five percentage points. The race has been closer over the past couple of weeks (see recent daily results). As with any bounce in the polls, it will take a few days to determine whether it reflects a lasting change in the race or is merely statistical noise.

Overall, Obama is viewed favorably by 56% of voters, McCain by 55%. Tracking Polls are released at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time each day. In last night’s polling, 50% had already seen coverage of Obama’s Berlin speech. Initial reactions to the speech will be reported at 10:30 a.m. Eastern today. Premium Members can review the results early by checking out the Daily Snapshot. Also available for Premium Members are the latest numbers on support for offshore oil drilling.

2. What a relief! I got so tired hearing about Obama's support "softening" in the polls.
It made me feel physically sick. Just the thought that McCain could actually become president threw me into a funk.

I am hoping for a big surge of support after the poll on reactions to the speech...

4. The news gets even better when you look at the electoral tracking
http://www.usaelectionpolls.com/2008/general-election/electoral-college-results.html

Obama is competitive in states the GOP usually wins without question. The GOP is going to have to spend money in places like Virginia, North Carolina, and North and South Dakota.... they never really had to campaign all that hard in those states before.

5. Please look at my post on my examination of Colorado poll
That shows how bogus it was. I'm looking at the other polls
on Wisconsin etc. It doesn't mean that work needs to be done
but it does show one needs to look at the polling samples.

6. What's Up With The Latest Battleground State Polls
The latest buzz on all the cable news shows is how the battleground states are tightening up and moving in McCain’s favor.

With the lousy economy and higher prices on almost everything you would think people’s frustration would be reflected in a larger Obama margin.

Throw in the awful images of McCain lately (I love the grocery store picture) and I am truly baffled at how Obama could be losing ground.

7. Nah. Not surprised.
The tightening state polls are based on the rough few weeks that Obama has had before this trip. Also he's getting hammered on drilling and needs to come out with a better response on energy.

9. Up is down, war is peace. Obama not McCain is "hammered on
drilling", yet the following is barely mentioned if at all!!

"Thursday, workers on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico off the Louisiana coast will see clear skies, mild temperatures in the 80's and 90's, and feel only a slight breeze. However, John McCain's campaign says inclement weather caused the cancellation of his appearance there, aimed at promoting offshore drilling.
Perhaps a more likely cause is the 400,000 plus gallons of oil floating through the Mississippi, spilled yesterday after a barge collided with a tanker at New Orleans. As for inclement weather, at the time McCain would have been taking center-stage on the oil rig, Hurricane Dolly, a Category 2 storm, was making landfall at the Texas-Mexico border about 600 miles away. "

10. Republicans always propose simplistic "answers"
to difficult problems.

Drilling is but one example.

This makes them terrible at governing, but it makes it easy for them to campaign and win office.

11. Here's what's happening: any time Obama gets soundbytes played across full media....
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 07:17 PM by Political Heretic
...people like what they hear, even when the "pundits" are doing their best to take him down a peg to keep it a "horse race."

When its mostly the media talking "about" Obama - polls weaken. But when the American public gets more opportunity to hear and see Obama himself, they like what they see.

This was also true during the primaries, and its very good news for our candidate.

Don't be surprised if national polls tighten again before/through the conventions, but on the home stretch I have high hopes that with hard work we will prevail.
