Well, fellow DU'ers, today the press seems to be working overtime to prove they're NOT biased...
...in Obama's favor.

The headline in today's LA Times is "Obama Faces Hurdles on His Road Toward White House," and other articles in the NY Times and other papers concur--they highlight all the latest polls that say McCain is catching up, talk with the usual PUMA suspects, and are generally now making it their business to prove that Barack's trip was all for nought, and he was better off shopping for cheese and sausage alongside old man McCain.

Whatever. In my opinion, it's just a knee-jerk reaction to McCain's pathetic "The press loves Obama!" argument. And while it's true that Barack still faces some challenges ahead, there is plenty to be cheery about. Today, well after press time, Rasmussen released a poll showing Obama giving McCain a wide berth as a result of his overseas adventure. Expect more good news to follow..

1. I was just thinking in terms of when BO becomes President. I
hope his memory serves him well and he remembers these pundits and rags and the great disservice they are showing him and the people.

2. Of course they are
it's the same thing that happened when Hillary Clintons team did the same thing. They come out and complain that Obama is getting too much positive attention so the media in typical knee jerk herd mentality goes out of their way to provide the whining party with as much positive attention as they can (McCain can really chew a sausage) while "proving" they aren't bowing down to Obama.

The media in this country is so predictable it's truly pathetic. I used to think that the cable news channel era would be fantastic about 15 years ago but it has really gone to hell in a handbasket. Those yapping heads, on all the cable news channels, not just Faux, aren't anything like journalists, just fucking stenographers. You could train a high school kid to do their jobs and save a shit load of salary.

3. The Media Is Keeping McCain In This Race
Any reasonable person following this election knows that McCain is by far the weaker candidate of the two. By Far.

So, instead of reporting the truth which is that Obama is finishing an historic trip abroad which answers any doubts about his Commander in Chief bona fides and hence destroying the one strong suit for McCain.

Obama is getting favorable coverage because he is the better candidate, and more importantly, he is our best hope for the future.

McCain represents a continuation of the utter disastrious 8 years of Bush. There's not a single major policy difference between McCain and Bush, not a one, and given that, for this media to prop up McCain's campaign at all is a real detriment to the future of this country.

This is not a "want to change" election. This is a "must change or perish" election.

4. What the poll folks don't understand...
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 10:41 AM by Youphemism
The cachet Obama gains from this trip is not something that translates to day-to-day polling. Who honestly thinks that many voters would say, "Okay, Obama can travel and shake hands -- I'll vote for him now."

The images from this tour, instead, stay in the mind. They'll be recalled when Obama and McCain debate. The trigger for that recall will be incidents in which McCain tries to convince voters of some logical fallacy and Obama corrects him. "Senator McCain talks about 'victory,' but he has trouble defining it. Here are the factors that determine a U.S. victory:..." <poof!> Image of Obama in the copter with General Petraeus.

"Senator McCain is promoting Phil Gramm's 'Nation of Whiners' agenda to fix the economy. Here is how getting our NATO allies to share the anti-terrorism burden will help Americans pay their grocery bills in the coming years:..." <poof!> Image of Obama negotiating with a very receptive German Chancellor.

Polls are very nice, but you can't represent a chaos factor-based public sentiment using first grade mathematics.

As usual, Obama is setting up for the fourth quarter while the coin toss is still in the air.
