Most french "conservative" right-leaning politicians, like Sarkozy, are rather friendly looking and Sarkozy has a good sense of humour.

Reminds me of the old episode between Chirac and a protester that was close to him. The protester told him "Connard, va!" (Fucker, go! As Chirac was obviously walking away, entering the hotel I think). To which Chirac replied: "Salut connard, je suis Jacques Chirac. Enchanté." ("Hi fucker, I'm Chirac. Well met.")

Evidently, in terms of american politics, Sarkozy is fairly moderate. Perhaps as much as Obama. In France, he's the leader of the right and totally despised by the left.
