WASHINGTON - John McCain unleashed his harshest broadside yet at Barack Obama Friday afternoon, accusing the Democrat of flunking the commander-in-chief test.

Speaking to veterans in Denver, McCain tore into his rival for opposing President Bush's troop surge in Iraq - one of the few issues where the GOP has gotten traction against Obama during his tour of Europe and U.S. war zones.

"Eighteen months ago, America faced a crisis as profound as any in our history," McCain said, declaring that the choice to boost troops in the faltering Iraq war was "a real-time test for a future commander in chief" that Obama failed.

"He didn't just advocate defeat, he tried to legislate it," McCain declared in a blistering denunciation that mentioned Obama 16 times and accused him of playing politics with war.

"Sen. Obama told the American people what he thought you wanted to hear. I told you the truth," McCain said. "Fortunately, Sen. Obama failed, not our military. We rejected the audacity of hopelessness."

1. John McCain has spent the last eight years frantically sucking Georgie Boy's dick.
He has no business talking about how ANYONE else has failed his vague "commander-in-chief" test.

4. McCain is playing this card too early.
This is the strongest claim he can make against Obama. He can't keep going on with this talking point for the rest of the campaign. If it isn't working yet, it's not ever going to. He should be saving this for late October. At least then it wouldn't be played out before it's usefulness can really be measured.

5. who is advising McCain? They're sucking badly
it's one thing to feel frantic because your only myth-induced "strong suit" is being effectively chipped away - it's another to act like an ass by claming Obama "advocates defeat". Actually, it is almost fun to watch. :7

6. He might have something there
if the 'surge' really worked.

What worked was bribing the Sunni tribal chiefs to not attack us. And that was showing results well before the escalation even began.

8. What a whiny little bitch he is.
Is this a presidential election or an insult contest? I've never seen someone so old act like such a child. Not only is he lying about Obama's position, he's trying to take credit for policy changes and events on the ground in Iraq that he had nothing to do with. Sleazy and dishonorable.
