Native American Tribes Bless Pepsi Center for DNC
DENVER (AP) - Native American tribes from Colorado have performed a blessing outside the Pepsi Center, the site of next month's Democratic National Convention.

Members of the Ute Mountain Ute and Southern Ute tribes burned sage, chanted, sang and said prayers Friday, a month before the start of the convention.

The DNC committee said a feather was used to "smudge" smoke around the site. Tribe members also prayed for delegates and people around the country whose lives will be affected by the work done at the convention.

Both tribes have reservations in Colorado's southwestern corner near Mesa Verde National Park.

2. Wonder how long it took to smudge a place like that.
And how many pounds of sage they went through. Sounds like a big smudging job.

3. Colorado has a hell of a lot to answer for with Native Americans....
Denver is located in Arapaho county, named for the Arapaho tribe that lived on the eastern plains of Colorado and Wyoming. In 1864 the horrifying Sand Creek Massacre took place, an early morning attack by US Cavalry soldiers who killed 150-200 Arapaho women, children and elderly as they slept.

Colorado has a really horrible past history with treatment of Native Americans. I grew up there, and never learned a damn thing about them except that that "Indians used to live around these parts".

6. A small correction - Denver is Denver County

It's the City & County of Denver. Arapaho County is located next to Denver to the south and east.

17. Indians Still Live Around These Parts
but not in Arapahoe County - where it's super suburbia and the white man rules.

Besides, the Sand Creek Massacre happened a decade before Colorado was a state.
Kiowa County where the massacre took place is no where near Arapahoe County, a suburb south/east of Denver. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiowa_County%2C_Colorado

8. How wonderful
What a nice thing to do to ensure a peaceful and positive gathering. :)

I think the RNC location in Minn. is going to need a pair of exorcisms--one before, and definitely one after.

Okay, so Dean is in Hell right now. But Sam is still available, and has all of the tools in the back of the Metallicar.

15. Darn I didn't get to Rec'd it..too late but
this is so important and should be done at the White House, too!

I first knew of this(I know..sheltered) when I lived on Kauai and learned the Hawaiians would have a A Blessing as part of the opening of a new business, a new house, or anything that needed a cleansing and welcoming good spirits.

Thank you, Utes!!
