Obama Considers GOP Running Mate
July 25) - Barack Obama's vice presidential search team has floated the name of a member of President Bush's first-term Cabinet, Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman, as Obama's running mate.
The search committee, now led by Caroline Kennedy and Eric Holder, raised Veneman's name — among others — in discussions with members of Congress, two Democrats familiar with the conversations said

21. JUST.SAY.NO to Veneman, read this from NYTimes Dec. 2001
Agriculture Secretary vs. Sacred Cow
By ELIZABETH BECKER

As secretary of agriculture, Ann M. Veneman, a lawyer who spent her childhood on a California peach farm and watched her father rise in state and national Republican politics, seemed well placed to help President Bush wean big farmers from decades of multibillion-dollar subsidies.

But in the last few months, some members of Congress have called her useless, said her advice was awful and declared her department an enemy of farmers and ranchers.

Few cabinet members have been treated with as much disdain on Capitol Hill, by members of both parties, as Ms. Veneman, 52, who is beginning to learn who really makes farm policy in Washington.

Her attempt to redirect how the government gives out $20 billion each year in farm subsidies was met with enraged resistance from farm-state lawmakers.

Representative Larry Combest, a Texas Republican and chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, criticized Ms. Veneman's work, saying, ''Too many farmers and ranchers have become concerned that the U.S.D.A. does not always have their best interests in mind.''

Last summer Mr. Combest publicly accused Ms. Veneman of ''unilateral disarmament'' in her determination that some farm subsidies threatened international trade agreements.

''Her advice is awful, horrible,'' said Senator Kent Conrad, the North Dakota Democrat who heads the Budget Committee.

59. No weirder than a Republican man would be.
A Republican, period, would be weird. There's a reason the early system of the loser of the Presidential election becoming VP (as Thomas Jefferson did when he lost to John Adams in 1796) was abandoned; the only president since to have a member of the opposing party as Vice President was Abraham Lincoln, and that didn't turn out very well at all.

37. It's gonna be CLONE Agnew
It's true:

Back in 1973, when Obama was a boy of 12, he bought a single silver hair, plucked from the head of Spiro T. Agnew. He kept it in a jar of milk. Little did he know that the jar of milk contained magic, cloning bacteria.

Obama stored the jar of milk away, along with his Kenyan birth certificate, some vials and notes he took while he was secretary of the White-Man-Haters Club. Sometime during the eighties, when Obama made his living as a coke dealer, he needed those vials. So he broke out the old box containing his seecrit past.

Well, what do you know. There, in that jar of soured milk, was a baby Spiro T. Agnew!

Obama kept lil' Spiro hidden for twenty more years and sometime this August, he will bring him before the whole world and announce:

"This is my Vice President! Suck it! You nattering neighbobs of negativity!"

or is that a formality that could be skipped?

Assuming that there will be an actual vote, I don't believe that a pub could make it. Even with Obama's preference. Even with Obama Partizan's. I don't think Obama would be stupid enough to give himself a black eye at his own convention.
