Did you see how the RWers are talking about Obama not visiting the troops in Germany?
"For a young man so apt at playing president, Barack Obama badly misjudged the important demands of the office he seeks. Visits with world leaders and speeches with cheering Europeans shouldn't be a substitute for comforting injured American heroes."-Lt. Col. Joe Repya
:eyes: So the pentagon tells him he can't go as part of his campaign and he gets slammed for it, of course, just as the McCain campaign wanted. And the MSM is all too happy to play along.

1. Using wounded troops to try to score political points is reprehensible behavior.

19. The response should be, McShame consistently voted against helping our vets.
Who's really for the troops?

2. "And the MSM is all too happy to play along."
That cant be right.

I just got blasted by a fellow Dem in another thread for daring to criticize his belief that the MSM is spending too much time fawning over Obama.

Im so confused!

This is getting big coverage on hate radio :grr:

7. Yup, and the MSM is quoting hate radio and running with it. Yesterday, David Shuster
did just that-he said, "The right wing media is having a field day with Obama not visiting the troops saying this shows how little he really cares about the troops..." (paraphrased, but he went on to defend the "RW media" in "their" criticism.

8. And it doesn't matter
People who listen to "hate radio" would never vote for Obama anyway.

13. That's true
and it amazes me that the MSM even gives the wackos any exposure at all. Can you imagine Edward R. Murrow acknowledging the likes of Rush or O'Reilly? Yet freaks like Ann Coulter show up on mainstream shows as if they are credible.

We live in strange times.

though I still enjoy some PBS shows, especially Bill Moyers. I can remember when TV was like that every night.

10. This "Lt.Col. Joe Repya" you're quoting is a serial asshat
"I'm tired of the so called "Elite Left" that prolongs this war by giving aid and comfort to our enemy, just as they did during the Vietnam War."... Lt. Col. Joe Repya

18. The point that everyone is missing is rather obvious...
A day or two before did not Condi or another state department flunky issue a warning to embassy employees that could not attend Obama's speech in Berlin?
Violation of the Hatch Act they say.
Pardon me, I just choked on my own bile.
Yuck...

It would follow that something like this would be next.

I think it's over on Americablog but there was a great post about the sleazy tricks of Pentagon spokes-lizard Withworth?
It's apparent that the Pentagon is yet another extension of the BUSH GOP.

23. Is Lieut. Col Joe Repya active duty? If so he shouldn't be taking place in partisan politics.
Of course we all know this is Bush coordinated with McCain. Deny Obama at the last minute (you can't make a huge change on the last day and expect the guy to go through with his visit, the logistics, safety etc. have too many details), meanwhile McCain and RW radio are ready to pounce on this. What bullshit.

which makes him a partisan hack.

24. IMHO the campaign made a mistake - they should've known
the RW would run with this kind of talking point and smear. Ok the Pentagon nixed the trip to Landstuhl with campaign staff and cameras on short notice. But someone in the campaign or Obama himself should've known and made sure w/o the staff and cameras that Obama still make the visit.

Blaming the Pentagon isn't going to defuse this one. This was the mistake the RW was desparately waiting for Obama to make.

A Democratic campaign and candidate can never let their guard down with the RW. Bet any DU'er could've told Kerry, John we know you love windsurfing but please forego it this summer of '04!

The Obama have got to find a way to counter this one fast.

26. But McCain's LYING about this. He's claiming that Obama didn't visit them when he was told he
couldn't take the cameras with him. He wasn't going to bring the cameras with him. Obama should counter with an ad about McCain lying to the Veteran who questioned his record of voting to support the troops.
