2. A 5th rec and totally kicked...
For the life of me, I just can't imagine what the Dalai Lama and McCain could have possibly discussed.
McCain is to the Dalai Lama what intelligence is to Bush.
I don't get it.

But, as usual... an inspiring message by Obama.

11. I don't get it either
Mc Same and the Dalai Lama - could two individuals be any more different? A celibate monk who works tirelessly for peace, and a war-monger with a legendary reputation for indulging his libido.

But then the Dalai Lama is enjoined by his religion to pray daily for the health, happiness and enlightenment of all beings. I try myself, but then I wind up thinking "The enlightenment of this Administration? Yeah, like that's going to happen any time soon....". But then the Dalai Lama's a much better Buddhist than I.

And Obama has got a lot of class.

6. and Namaste to you
from Kathmandu Nepal, where hundreds of Tibetan protesters continue to be arrested on a regular basis, based on the need for China's support of this tiny once-monarchy now new republic.

For those who don't know, namaste is translated in many different ways but means, more or less, "I respect the divinity that is in us both." (my words).

12. Namaste. It's a greeting-message that is absent in most encounters in the West.

Any advice on sources to follow developments in Nepal? I catch enough headlines to get a bare sketch, but nothing really substantive on if/how the lives of the people might be changing. A beautiful country with beautiful people and a rich heritage.

16. But Tibetan Independence isn't on the Dalai Lama;'s itenerary
He's after increased Tibetan autonomy, not independence from China.

Meh. Don't mind me. I think I'm one of the handful of progressives who don't get all dewy-eyed over Tibet or the Dalai Lama.

8. where's the Gunga la-gunga?

"So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddie, a looper, a jock.

So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself ... So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one -- big hitter, the Lama -- long, into a 10,000 foot crevice, right at the base of this glacier.

And do you know what the Lama says? 'Gunga galunga, gunga -- gunga galunga.'"

15. hee hee.

The first DVD I bought was actually Dumb and Dumber. But I bought the first DVD player that was sold in my state, so there weren't many titles available at that point. My player actually came with 4 movies in the box so that people would have something to watch.

You have excellent taste though.

My dad was a B-52 pilot, so Dr. Strangelove is that much better a movie for me. :-)
