100 Days -- You don't have to thank us Senator McCain
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 01:55 AM by grantcart
We are approaching the last lap of one of the longest marathon elections in history.

In 100 days it will be over.

A Fork in the Road

The United States will have taken a gigantic step into history.

We are approaching a fork in the road. One path is an energetic brilliant inspirational leadership that is committed to higher ethics, pragmatic engagement of the people, and a rigorous intellectual pursuit of not simply the problems that face the country but the underlying thinking that gets us where we are at.

or

We will take the other path which is stuck on jingoistic phrases like "we will stay until we win" but never defines what winning is, has no idea of what the cost will be and is completely oblivious to the fact that if our enemies were to start another proxy war in, say Africa, we would not have the forces to handle it.

There are millions of people in Bangladesh, for example, that are on land that is barely a few feet above the sea and vast parts of their homeland will vanish if Global Warming is not stopped soon.

One path brings us leadership that intends to challenge not just the elected officials but the bureaucracy, industry, and the entire populace in making it not just happen but become our next great technological revolution that will confront our "war on the climate"

or

The other path would consist of an imagination so calcified that they would not be able to finish this post.

On one path a separation of Government and the Private Sector.

or

An administration that has achieved power by a campaign whose leadership consists almost entirely of lobbyists on loan.

Has Senator McCain really considered what his victory would be like?

I find myself wondering does Senator McCain have any idea of what would happen if he wins this election?

Imagine that the United States in a systemic loss of common sense decides not to vote for intelligence for the third time in a row. Suppose that events so extenuating and bizarre that even Hollywood could not project them were to happen and by a narrow margin Senator McCain is able - somehow - to win the electoral college.

He would experience a political honeymoon measured in nanoseconds. Every word he spoke would be put under the microscope. He would become responsible for every downturn and problem the country faced. Every military casualty would be charged to his account. There would be no fair and amenable speech. No words from any corner would soothe the bitter bile stuck in the throats of a vast well organized part of the country.

Senator McCain think Richard Nixon in 1969, 1970, 1971.

Think Kent State. Massive protests designed to bring the country to a standstill.

Senator McCain the country would not be divided it would be polarized to a point not seen since the middle of 1865. No quarter would be given. The White House would become a permanent bunker because every time you planned to leave it would invite a full and enthusiastic expression of the First Amendment.

Those responsible for falling for whatever last minute 'surprise' or campaign of fear that you would have had to have launched would almost immediately experience the most profound 'buyers remorse' in the history of the country. There is no Party base that would support you because, quite frankly, they hate you. They not only hate you they are willing to destroy your family in their hatred. They only vote for you because they think that (R) next to your name means that they retain imperial power.

So we are going to do you a favor Senator McCain.

For our own reasons we are going to use these next 100 days to make sure that you are spared all of this.

We are going to donate money, volunteer time, and make calls.

We are going to engage our neighbors and lift each other up and we will stop attacking each other.

We are going to expose every lie that you now habitually use in your lust for power.

We are going to be relentless and we are going to focus some part of each of the next 100 days to make sure that America takes the correct fork in the road.

We will save you from spending the next 4 years trapped in the worst nightmare you could ever imagine.

You don't have to thank us Senator McCain, it was our pleasure.
