Obama Taps Buffett, Rubin, Summers for Economy `Fine Tuning'
July 26 (Bloomberg) -- Democrat Barack Obama, pivoting to the U.S. economy after a nine-day trip abroad, said he is convening a meeting on the economy July 28 that will include former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker and billionaire investor Warren Buffett.

``I expect some further fine tuning of short-term policies based on what's happened over the last several months,'' Obama said in an interview aboard his presidential campaign plane returning tonight to Chicago from London.

The meeting in Washington will also include former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers, New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, former Labor Secretary Robert Reich, and Anna Burger, secretary- treasurer of the Service Employees International Union, said David Axelrod, Obama's chief strategist.

by the time the Olympics show up McCain will have turned himself into a little Jack Russel just chasing after Obama and nipping at his heels.

3. McCain's strategy seems very scatter shot.
Basically attack attack attack, with no cohesive plan.

I'm glad Obama is doing this. He is the leader and McCain is just swallowing his dust.

21. You're forgetting McCain's dairy aisle events.
They're good strategy for McCain. He needs to keep pushing those dairy aisle photo-ops until November.

5. you know the fiscal conservative bloc of the GOP
will tune in to some effect because as small business owners idolize guys like Buffet.

They might be shocked to find out they would pay less taxes under Obama's plan. We all know what drives those guys: their own interest.

as usual, Obama pulls out the big guns (isn't afraid to surround himself with people who obviously know about the subject at hand than he does -he's comfortable with himself like that).

6. What, no Alan Greenspan or Larry Kudlow?

Now these are people I respect: Warren Buffet, Paul Volcker, Robert Reich. And check it out, a union rep will be on the team.

14. I wouldn't let Kudlow balance my checkbook!
He is one of the biggest gawd damned liars I have ever seen on tv that isn't on Faux Snooze.
They had him go on MSNBC a few weeks ago during their morning news program and all he could say was "there are some good signs about the economy these days".

I thought "what kind of a crack pipe is this asshole smoking now?"

Seriously.
We're pouring $3 Billion a week into the sands of Iraq, there are dozens of major bank failures, the mortgage/housing crisis of untold proportions, the stock market is on its knees, and gas costs 5 bucks a gallon and this frickin' moron goes on tv and says "there are some good signs in this economy".
Maybe, if you live in Saudi Arabia!!!

CNBC should fire that asshat, he doesn't have a clue as to what the hell he is talking about.

15. He's in denial so bad, sometimes I tune in for the yucks.
It's fun to watch him squeal for more trickle-down and invisible hand in that whiney voice of his, as though more of his failed ideology would produce different results. I hope he has Phil Gramm on, that would be a good one.

Could it be any more obvious that Kudlow has always been just a shill for the wealthy elite?

7. If Obama is the intellectual center of his campaign process . . .
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 04:36 AM by MrModerate
Then he's more than audacious, he's a frakkin' genius.

Not to curse the thing, but I'm stretching my memory to find a campaign run with such grace and artistry and I'm coming up with nothing.

And I'm absolutely DYING for the debates.

18. Great Team, Great Meeting
This is like the economic transition team. Everything Obama says on the economy will take on an air of gravitas now. Plus he will actually get some good advice, such as that Social Security is not broken beyond repair.
