I'm fairly late to this "PUMA" bullshit . . .
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 03:46 AM by MrModerate
Since it's not being covered in the local (Aussie) papers or online at the major sites, and the topic hasn't been highly visible when I go on DU. I remember hearing about it shortly after Obama won enough delegates to become the presumptive nominee, and thought it had faded into the woodwork as deserved. Now some goniff is claiming 250 PUMA Web sites (which could be the work of about 10 people for all I know) and 2.5 million PUMA afficionados online.

A quick googling of the subject provides the expected level of reliable reporting, so I was curious: What is this shit? How big is it? I'm thinking maybe 20 half-time operatives being paid minimum wage by the RNC could make enough noise for the credulous and lazy MSM to pretend something is going on, but is this the case? Or (ominously enough) is the traditional Dem circular firing squad actually forming up?

1. It's been hashed quite a bit on DU actually
There is at least one thread a day about it. It's not a very big group.

7. well one good sign, most of the flyers were on the ground
and trashed. so? also, the person listed as the contact was a larouche flake-o. could just be something someone did to stir up trouble.

3. here's wikipedia's page on it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People_United_Means_Action

it's got warnings about "multiple issues", though, because it's a relatively new topic

I'm still waiting for someone to create a definition on "Urban Dictionary"

10. PUMA.....
is not the target. Hillary Clinton is. PUMA, in itself, is an insignificant group who offers no real threat to the outcome of this election, but the opportunity to link this group to HRC is just too damn hard to pass up. While it's nice for the more "avid" Obama supporters to pretend that if the primaries had gone for HRC, all Obama supporters, to a person, would have joined hands in supporting Senator Clinton, and that PUMA-like groups would never, ever, have been contemplated, even by the most virulent of Clinton haters, it is a real departure from reality to believe so. For many here, and elsewhere, hating a Clinton supercedes all other issues, as the support for Obama by many would not be nearly as enthusiastic if not for the inspiration of hatred for another democrat. Many Obama fans do not want unity, they demand fealty, and acknowledgement of condemnation of their choice for the candidacy. Knowing their "demands" will not be met, only fuels the fire for phony outrage in the hopes that someone will read their horse-shit, and say, "my, how idealistically progressive you are. Here's two liberal cookies as reward." These individuals, unable to grasp the urgency of the situation, are one of the greatest threats to the Obama campaign, in that the campaign to denigrate all Clinton supporters by proxy, using this, and other insignificant groups will drive those committed to Obama to stay home, or vote the unthinkable. People can only be shit on for so long before the desired reaction is reached, and that reaction is not what the Obama campaign needs right now. The importance of being recognized for phony outrage, and the illusion that they are somehow "better" progressives for expressing this irrational hatred means more that an Obama victory to them. Let's hope Clinton doesn't retire soon. The shock of withdrawal for many could be a real threat to their health. Thanks.

11. If you want to check the disease
www.hillaryclintonforum.net

They are an insignificant group of people who hated Obama more than they ever liked Hillary. In most cases I suspect racial reasons for their hatred as Harriet Christianson demonstrated by refering to Obama in her rant several months ago in racial terms.
