it's caught on big time not just on the right side of the blogosphere, but in the MSM as well. What does it say?
Well, clearly it insinuates that Obama is an egotistical maniac, but it goes beyond that: It suggests- and intends to suggest- that Obama is a false messiah- the anti-christ. Are people buying that in the literal sense? Some, I'd guess. Maybe even quite a few, but more could potentially buy into it in a less literal way; the old Obama is a dangerous and not really American phony who's eager to "sell out" America. Obama is wildly arrogant and an elitest. Blah, blah, blah.
It's easy to scoff at this kind of idiocy. Unfortunately, there are scads of idiots willing to believe utter crap.
My guess is that this will continue to be pushed and pushed and pushed.

1. It also has a tinge of racism attached. Let me explain. |
|
I have noticed that often when an exceptional black individual comes along, certian whites will initially ascribe superhuman qualities to them. I saw it with Tiger Woods: "A force of a nature"; and we are now seeing it Obama: "The Messiah", "The One". Obama's titles may be done in jest, but the intention is similar.
The idea, subconciously of course, is to strip away the true reality of their success (intelligence, talent, dedication) and replace it with divine machinations that are beyond our control.
They simply don't want to admit that its possible for a black person to wildly exceed expectations by simply out-thinking and out-working them. Its just not possible for a negro to be this good without being a super-hero. No way that he could simply be very talented BUT then also work VERY HARD. Nah ... blacks just don't have those genes. ;)
Note that this also sets up a narrative for when said figures inevitably stumble and make mistakes. When this happens the same individuals are eager to report that: "He's mortal after all" (Tiger Woods), and "Ohh.. so he's not the Messiah!" (Obama).

2. And it was engaged in with gusto by some people on this board during |
|
the primary. I think we are foolish to ignore that some of the more damaging crap that is put out there now was marketed first on the left. And the old saw that the Rs would have done it anyway doesn't wash with me. Given the organizational skills and "talent" McCain has as part of his machine, I highly doubt that they would have been able to pull it together to do so.

5. You are right Skidmore, unfortunately there were some things eagerly grabbed by |
|
the right that ensued from the primary of which probably occurs all the time from both sides as a result of attacks made in primaries. However, what the poster has said here is a deeper and more iniquitous act by those of the media that I find dangerous. The Obama campaign is a much smarter organization I think than we have had in the prior elections and I hope they have recognized what is going on here and will address them. He is back home now and we will be able to see how he is going to confront this stuff.

3. I think it says more about some of his supporters than it does about him |
|
because, on the serious, it's going to be a problem. And every person posting "he HAD to vote for FISA" out of one side of their mouth while saying "Hillary did NOT have to vote for the Iraq war" out of the other COUPLED WITH "Hillary is an unacceptable veep" against "Hagel would be good" participates in that bullshit each and every day. If we are to be honest with ourselves, we know this to be true.

9. No ONE person NEEDS to say ALL of it for my assertion to be true, which it is. thanks. |
|
I think you're misconstruing here: Obama cannot deem himself a Messiah, but some of his supporters undulation shows the reason why people are saying this. It says more about THEM than it does about HIM. (because he didn't do it) When some of these same supporters say what I posted in my response to the original op, or even part of it, they perpetuate the claim.
Oh, an PS. No ONE person said those things in my OP...LOTS of them did. You'd need to pay better attention, or recheck your facts.
