Obama will pick his VP this week.
Perhaps even in the next day or two.
He's riding a wave of positive press coverage from his trip.
He wants to keep it going.
His VP pick is coming soon, very soon.

BTW I think Mcain will pick his VP the day(maybe two) after Obama's acceptance speech.( He will want to "step on the bounce")

1. It will be interesting if McCain feels pressured to make his choice
before Obama makes his.

Because if McCain chooses early, there's almost no reason at all for anyone to pay attention to the Republican Convention in Minneapolis.

(Not that there's any anyway, but McCain's being pressured into annoncing his pick early removes the one suspenseful headline that might draw some attention to the Convention.)

18. Has to be done by the convention
As the convention makes the nomination.

In actuality the convention could over rule Obama's choice as was pointed out by some Hillary supporters at the end of the primaries. Not fucking likely but it is something that could happen in the rules of the party.

3. Only problem for McCain is who could give him a 'bounce?' Certainly not Romney, Pawlenty or Crist.
And, I don't think Bloomberg would accept the VP nod--even if McCain offered it.

5. Hi, flpoljunkie. Yes. McCain won't get much of a bounce with
any of them, at least not one that lasts very long. There could be a lake-effect snow bounce from the increaed attention, but after it fades, he can't pump it anymore.

I'm thinking he has to make a pick that will alienate one of the major demographics in the Republican base. He has to piss off the fundies and choose Lieberman or Ridge (both pro-choice), or piss off the independents and choose Franklin Graham (delighting the fundies).

I love it that McCain is in this position!

33. Condi Rice
would give him the most "bounce"

I don't think it'll happen but I can't think of anybody else who would grab more headlines by being chosen.(except Jeb)

There's a month 'til the convention.

He doesn't need make the front page every day. And after he picks his VP, what does he do in August?

34. his pick would be the story for perhaps two weeks.
then two more weeks to campaign together, lots more favorable press then go into the convention on such a roll, it will be undeniable.

A two week story? Seriously? Like the front page of the Times would do a story on it every day for 14 days?

7. I disagree. There's no reason for Obama to pick VP now.
Announcement of VP should be made to steal attention from McCain.

9. It would make my day. After the McCain committee has been giving the
press all of these completely false rumors just to keep them talking about it and the Obama campaign has kept absolutely quiet about it.

10. And Obama handled Brokaw brilliantly on MTP this morning.
He refused to engage in the Veep-Lust talk, he smiled the entire time, he just came off with this "I've got a secret" vibe.

Keep 'em guessing, Obama!!!

And then he laughed and it was a sincere laugh -- he's having a good time with all of this -- I am just amazed.

Obama has gotten a bounce and great press overall from his overseas trip. There's no hurry for Obama to choose his VP.

32. I doubt he will pick this week. This week is about the economy.

I predict he picks the following week or even the week of convention.

After hearing the MTP interview about picking someone he can work with instead of winning, I think he will pick Sebelius or Kaine.

36. OMG - Sebelius or Kaine? What would either of them bring to the table? A foreign policy crisis
before Nov will certainly sink either of those tickets.

They won't help us sleep better at night - but they might help us GET to sleep.
