hardcore supporters of the candidate look like this
Max, in Crawford, seeking redress regarding the Swiftboaters

Wes, on the stump with the guy he worked his ass off for.

Where's the rest of the big names these days? Our guy is once again out there without the party glitterati by his side.

1. Apparently, they don't know enough about him yet...but, wait, give them time to warm up
to the BEEP BEEP Road Runner....

3. This is a different kind of campaign and the strategy is working.

I'm sure the glitterati will be there at the right time - they're just not needed right now.

4. Its on purpose

They have won the "intellectual" battle and now they are working on the "emotional" one.

Obama wins on all questions but people still think he is a risk.

So he has to get out there and become familiar so that people can just relax and feel more comfortable with him.

Surrogates won't help he has to do it himself.

Later on you will see an armada of surrogates.

Wait until the days after Denver. I predict all hell breaks loose.

7. I think that the Democrats are doing as well at this point as they did then
Max Cleland was a long time personal friend of Kerry's and he was certainly not a part of the party glitteratti. Dean, Clark and Biden were out there for Kerry - as they have been for Obama. In addition, Kerry and Daschle have been out there several times a week in many cases for Obama - as have others.

9. Neither of my examples - Max or Wes - were ever part of the glitterati .....
.... which is sorta my point.

Both are tireless campaigners **for the cause**.

I love them both.

11. I agree completely with you then
I was utterly amazed with what Max Cleeland did. I saw a video of an appearance he made in 2006 at the Harvard's Kennedy Center for the premiere of a NECN file, "Hidden Wounds" about PTSD. Kerry and one of his crew were there as well. In addition people in the NH and MA National Guard were speaking of the program that they had created for returning soldiers who needed it.

Cleeland's speech was awesome and when he ended, Kerry was the one who took him off stage and for a minute or so, you could hear them speaking because Cleeland clearly had not turned off the microphone. They were speaking of getting together again and it was abundantly clear that there was a real friendship there.

I searched DU for the link - but it no longer works.
