Did ABC edit McCain ?

I was watching this week with george hufalufagus, and there was a point when answering questions on the gas tax when mcsame appears to be about to say something along the lines of we know how to change public opinion. Theres a clear edit there and the transcript is broken wierdly as well. Heres the transcript

STEPHANOPOULOS: How would you prevent that?

MCCAIN: We would make them shamed into it. We, of course, know how to -- American public opinion. And we would penalize them, if necessary. But they wouldn't. They would pass it on.

Did they take out another gaffe?

It seems to be a clear snip when you watch the video. Anyone else notice this?

Saying if we had followed Obama's preferences in Iraq there would have been genocide?! (1) outrageous (2) there WAS ethnic cleansing anyway! that's part of why violence went down earlier this year!!!!!


edit to add - oh, and Al Qaeda bases in Iraq - that would have happened without the surge....

George S. had the same confused look on his face he did when McCain was making no sense earlier.

He was avoiding answering the question about how to stop oil companies from absorbing any "gas tax holiday" - his answer was to say, well, public opinion would shame the oil companies and George S. wasn't even buying that.

but yeah, a couple of times when McCain was floundering it was off-camera - so in that sense, yeah, they have editing control of the visuals for sure.

17. With or Without Editting - Mortgage Discussion Made No Sense

I had to rewind the interview a couple of times because it made no sense. McCain began by discussing Federal spending, which caused George S. to say what does that have to do with the mortgage crisis. Then McCain blamed Congressional gridlock on OIL DRILLING, at which point George S. mentioned the mortgage bill that was passed by Congress. McCain kind of mumbled yes it has. George S. asked whether McCain would have voted in favor of it, and McCain said yes, but then criticized the bill for not putting more pressure on the borrower, since it required the lender to police the borrowers. George S. then asked isn't it like corporate welfare? McCain then said yes it is, and George S. asked why vote for it then. Then after a reference to George Will suggesting paying a government salary to execs at Fannie Mae, John McCain suggesting paying them just 1 dollar, and said that someone like Jack Welch would be willing to be CEO at Fannie Mae for $1.00!

WTF? Then he suggested more tax breaks for middle class, but then afer George S. asked ASIDE FROM SPENDING, what would John McCain do? John McCain responds by promising to veto any pork barrel spending bill (?!?!?!). McCain simply cannot stray from his talking points.

Gas tax holiday - This is noted above. Shame them? They wouldn't keep the tax break? Huh? Relying on the charity of the oil companies?

Social security - Would not respond directly to private accounts question. Said he would sit down, and everything is on the table. Got a bit testy when George S. tried to bring up quote from McCain. But, would not really discuss what his position was.

Russia out of the G-8. How does throwing Russia out help? McCain referred to President Putin until quickly corrected by George S. (Why correct McCain? C'mon.) Fails to explain how US would unilaterally throw Russia out of G-8 given that all other G-8 countries agrees.

Gay adoption - Family values. Punts to state.

Affirmative Action - Support AZ affirmative action bill after first saying that he did not know about it after George S. reminded him that he supported it. (George S. helps him out AGAIN!).
