Bloomberg as McCain's VP? |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 08:44 PM by aaroh
Rachel Maddow on MSNBC brought up an interesting point. Rachel was presented with 4-5 possible VP picks for McCain (which included Pawlenty and Romney) and she was asked which one stood out. Rachel answered no one stood out but John McCain needed a game changer for a VP like a Bloomberg.
Now I've been running that over my head this weekend and I think Bloomberg as McCain's Veep would definitely appeal to the "it's the economy stupid" voters, independent voters and jewish voters. The question is if Bloomberg would even accept the VP nomination if asked by McCain.
Fingers crossed Bloomberg is not on McCain's ticket.

1. Bloomberg is too smart to tie his political future to McCain |
|
I think Rachel was wrong on that one.

As recent history will attest, sometimes a powerful VP will allign himself with a complete idiot just to achieve his agenda.

4. Bloomberg could almost as easily be on Obama's ticket. |
|
You know, I was wondering today...
What if Obama officially asked McCain to be his Vice President?
Not necessarily because he'd WANT McCain to accept.
But how would that play-out in the media?

5. Bloomberg is a Democrat who switched to the GOP in order |
|
to win his mayoral election.
He is pro-choice, favors governmental interference in the market place and would never play second fiddle to an ass-hat like McCain.

7. bloomberg has a generally pro-choice record and has been endorsed by NARAL in the past |
|
No one with that background is getting the repub nomination for VP. Period.

8. Bloomberg's worth nearly $20 billion, why would he want to be VP? |
|
I have a lot of family living in the Bronx. As soon as Bloomberg became mayor, he did away with the recycling program. He thought it would save money. -That was until he found out that the five boroughs would then have to pay for their garbage to be landfilled (opposed to selling the recyclables). ...Needly to say, Bloomberg then went back to recycling.
Rudy Guilliani handed Bloomberg his mayorship with his endorsement (it was right after 9-11 and Rudy was seen as a hero...yuck). ...Since then Rudy sold his investment firm to an Australian company which is a toll booth conglomerate.
Mike Bloomberg has been pushing (relentlessly) for an $8 toll to get into the lower part of Manhattan. ...It's my theory that Guilianni would profit from this toll.

He wants to be the president.
I think he may use the hapless John McCain as a means to that end.

12. Hoping McCain Picks Female Dan Quayle - Sarah Palin of Alaska |
|
There was some buzz that McCain might choose the former Miss Alaska contestant because she is hot and has high approval ratings in Alaska. However, picking her would make it difficult for John McCain to harp on Obama's experience. Obama could actually damn him with faint praise by praising his recognition that judgment, not experience is the most important factor.

No, I don't want him in the White House apparatus very much if at all.
Yes, I think he's a truly significant uptick from his predecessor as New York City's mayor.
Yes, I would have supported Mark Green, the Democrat, over Bloomberg the Democrat-turned-Republican-now Independent. It was a close race, despite Bloomberg's 75-million bank account used for the race.
He's term-limited and will have a gigantic wad of cash and absolutely nothing to do in a matter of months.
He's primed for a project. He wanted to be president. IMO Obama's winning the Democratic nomination obviated Bloomberg's candidacy. IMO a Clinton primary victory would have provoked a Bloomberg candidacy.
I believe Bloomberg considers himself superior to Obama as an executive and vastly, vastly superior to McCain.
Almost overnight, as David Bender pointed out this week, Bloomberg could go from being a relative nobody across the country to a household name. He has the means to do this. He could buy ad time in the top 20 U.S. radio and tv markets and in 7 days' time be the talk of the hour.
McCain's entire campaign, Bender goes on to say, could be legally and practically financed by Michael Bloomberg.
If Bloomberg thinks McCain is not likely to survive both terms, or if a deal is struck to the effect that he, Bloomberg, foots the bill to put McCain in office if McCain agrees to resign in say March of 2012, the incumbent president running for the GOP in 2012 in November would be Michael Bloomberg.
Money is what makes him powerful and influential and mercurial, but it also repels people who don't see public service as a Yankees talent-acquisition.
He's a player. His wallet makes him so. And he's no dumbass.

14. If it is not Bloomberg or Petreaus, McCain is better off with Franklin Graham. |
|
He needs an infusion of massive bucks, a medal-laden general, or a religious psychotic to even compete against Obama, IMO.

He called the gas tax holiday the "dumbest idea he's ever heard". Repubs are going to try and make gas "their issue" with their awful ideas, so he would be out for that alone.

|
he is a social Liberal and I strongly believe he would not want to be a part of a team to defeat the first African-American presidential nominee. Remember how quickly he put the kabosh on his 3rd-party run when Obama picked up steam.
