I think the convention schedule helps Obama
Of course, going last would be better (epsecially since it would have meant President Kerry would be running for a second term) but I think having the conventions back to back weeks is a big plus for Obama. In 2004 the Dem's had their convention in early August and the Repugs went over 3 weeks later after the Olympics in Athens. I think Kerry's convention momentum completely faded and it allowed the Repug's to gain all the momentum going into the general election campaign. With the schedule this year there should be a stark contrast between the enthusiasm for Obama and that spectacular finish in the Broncos stadium followed by Gramps and his "my friends" style of speaking. I could see Gramps coming out of this with a negative convention bounce. However, the MSM will do their best to make sure that doesn't happen so who knows.

11. I read today but haven't double checked that
the party in power gets to go last..so in 2012 we will be going last.

The timing for this one is PERFECT as Obama's acceptance speech is on the 45th anniversary of MLK's I Have A Dream Speech.

12. Your probably right
And if McCain announces his VP before the Olympics, there will be no sense of excitement for the Republican convention. Plus, GWB is gonna be there with McCain, which def. won't help him.

Thirdly, Obama's convention speech is in Colorado, where he is up by only 1-2 percent. If he gives a really good speech, I'd expect a nice bump for Barack in Colorado.
