Poll question: Is America ready for an elderly president? |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-28-08 08:39 AM by Bleachers7
The polling organizations should be asking this. But we know DU is the trailblazer.

1. Is America ready for unrepentant adulterer and elderly McCain as president. |
|
Because according to the Bible the republicans seem to believe they have a lock on, Jesus says putting away your wife for any reason other than infidelity and remarrying is adultery.

Because it's so true! McCain really does embody the worst of both Bush and Reagan.

Since when did attacking a person on the basis of age become acceptable at DU?

People ask if America is ready for a black president or a woman president all the time. McCain would be the oldest person ever elected.

Is an elderly man ready to be president? Campaigning becomes more and more crazy with the internet and cable news...much more stressful, demandng and a lot is expected, time and energy wise. It's way, way different than it was during Reagan, and Bush Sr. and Dole campaigns. Someone should point out how Clinton and Bush aged during their eight year stints. What is McCain going to look like after four...or eight years? A walking cadaver. And with his temperment, they'll have to put padded walls in the oval office!
On edit: Reagan also aged rapidly during his eight years, but he colored his hair so it wasn't noticeble. There is evidence that near the end of his term, he was showing signs of alzheimers.
Nothing against old people. We all hope to be old people some day! But, let's face it...you would not ask a 70 year old person to teach aerobics. Campaigning is often like aerobics.

Mick Jagger just turned 65. He's only about 7 years younger than McLoon, but I'd say he's in infinitely better mental and physical condition. Hell, even Keith is in better shape than McCain! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7WV5-dsREo

And look how well that turned out. :eyes:
Seriously, the presidency is a job, not a reward for years of public service. A broken-down old man just isn't up to it. And it doesn't help that many around here who have cared for loved ones with dementia -- and they ought to know -- insist that McCain shows the early signs of it.

But they have to be better than John McCain.
If Obama was 70 in this election, I would still vote for him, so my answer is yes.
