Obama should name his VP choice THIS week.....

Wednesday at the latest.

Keep the McCain campaign on the defensive. Win several more days in a row of news coverage.

If he names Tom Kaine, as I expect he will, as his VP selection on Wednesday....that will dominate the news for the 9 days until the Olympics starts.

No more discussions of troop visits or anything else.

It would obliterate all other campaign news..... and it would give Obama a third straight week of dominating the news while McCain is left to cry some more about not getting covered.

McCain will not name his VP during the Olympics.... so he'll have to wait until August 29th.... after the Dem convention.

Obama is a chess player, McCain is a checkers player.

The chess player should make this move.

2. Not so sure...
I see what you're getting at, but if Obama announced by Wednesday, McCain would probably have no choice but to announce as well, so he would balance out the media coverage.

Plus, the downside of this idea is that if he announces before the Olympics, there is less excitement at the Dem convention, which also generates tons of media coverage.

3. Why? There's no reason to name a VP early
Obama got good publicity last week. The Olympics start in less than two weeks and people will be focused on that. The time to name a VP will be just before the convention to help create excitement. And besides the one who needs to name a VP to create some news is McCain not Obama, and let McCain do it first (but then he might wait until his convention, too).

6. Reason 1: Win another week of news cycles Reason 2: Keep McCain and reacting instead acting

3. Bury the troop visit story.

4. Freeze McCain out of the news for 3 weeks (this week plus the Olympics)

Lots of good reasons.

8. I still don't think it's necessary
I like the idea of creating excitement leading up to the convention and waiting to see if McCain names his VP first.

7. Nah.... Keep McCain REACTING instead of ACTING

Make it look like everything McCain does is in response to Obama, instead of the other way around.

Even if Obama didn't follow my (sound) advice to name his pick on Wednesday.

23. Hillary's not my first choice as Obama's Veep
and have said as much. Numerous times.

It's fascinating that you think that everyone who supported her in the primaries must also have her as their top choice for Vice President.

You have Hillary on the brain, dude.

I don't get it. It is irrational and ugly.

Do they have psychological issues with their mothers?

15. That would be good. ---- Also....
Is Obama going to go to any of the Olympic events?

I know that the 96 Games were here, but it would be neat if he were in the arena at one of the bigger events.

(Bill and Hillary were in the Georgia Dome for some events...)

21. Obama should NOT go to Beijjing
He should not award the Chinese govt's oppression of its people, genocidal beating down of dissent, and other humanitarian travesties by visiting them. No respectable President (or Presumptive President) would EVER go there--- so it makes sense that King Georgie is visiting.

16. I don't understand the rush here
and he doesn't need to keep McCain on the defensive throughout the summer. We're heading into August, where nobody pays attention to anything. The REAL campaign begins in SEptember.

18. Technically, if he names the VP before the weekend, he "kept my timeline"
I said "this week".

I preferred Wednesday.

I suspect that Obama DOES know what he is doing. In this case, I disagree.
