Clinton's donors backing Obama
http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/2008/07/28/20080728prezmoney0726.html

Thousands of Hillary Clinton's donors gave at least $1.2 million to Democrat Barack Obama in June, accelerating a migration from her presidential campaign that began months ago.

Republican John McCain collected about $11,000 from that group in the same period, according to an Arizona Republic analysis of Federal Election Commission records.

The numbers suggest no widespread defections from the Democratic Party after its hard-fought primary season between Clinton and Obama ended the first week of June. McCain has hoped that many of Clinton's supporters would join him in an anti-Obama backlash.

The financial reports are even more lopsided than polls that indicate few Clinton backers are crossing party lines.

"Democrats are unifying because they understand that we need fundamental change in Washington, not four more years of George Bush's failed policies," Obama spokeswoman Shannon Gilson said in a e-mail.

1. Never trust the polls.
And when I think of all the discussions here that use them as evidence...

tsk, tsk,

:hi:

2. This just proves that the media was trying to divide the Dems
by claiming things that weren't true... like the HRC people weren't supporting Obama and that they were still angry.
I didn't believe that many HRC people would go for McBush. They're too smart for that.

3. Precisely. PUMAs numbers have been GREATLY overestimated.
It's just like Bill said a long long time ago...

In the primaries you fall in love. In the general you fall in line.

And that is exactly what Hillary supporters are doing. The incidental nutbags have been given WAY too much attention.

4. "thousands"
Doesnt sound like a whole lot to me. It should be tens or hundreds of thousands imho. Clinton supporters gave 1.2 of 50+ million? I dont really find this encouraging.

5. That article also mentions that millions were raised for her
to retire her debt. I think once most of that is gone, those same people will donate more to Obama.
The main thing to remember is that most donations from HRC people went to Obama, not McCain. They aren't abandoning the Dem party the way the media likes to play it.

6. True.
The comparison is definitely noteworthy. I guess I should be glad that *at least* they're not going to McCain.
