Ever hear the one about the stolen food in the Warsaw Ghetto?

Someone stole some food and the guards lined up all the prisoners to interrogate them.

"I'm going to shoot one person every two minutes until I find out who took the extra food!" bellowed the head Nazi. To demonstrate his point, he takes his pistol out and, right there, shoots a man dead on the spot.

At the end of the line, a young boy starts to cry, drawing the guard's attention. He walks over and puts looks the boy in the face. "Did you take the food?" he asks.

The boy shakes his head no.

"Do you know who took the food?"

The boy, trembling, nods "yes". Tension fills the air.

"OK, tell me!"

The boy wipes his eyes, draws himself up and dramatically points to the fallen man. "He did!"


The joke actually made the rounds in the Warsaw ghetto during the war. Spielberg used it in "Shindler's List" too. Gallows humor at it's best, I suppose.
