Rasmussen Markets Update: Kaine Now Favorite to Become Obama’s Running Mate

Rasmussen Markets Update: Kaine Now Favorite to Become Obama’s Running Mate

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Fueled by a Drudge Report headline and heavy buzz inside the beltway, Rasmussen Markets data shows a surge in expectations that Tim Kaine will become Barack Obama’s running mate. Just before noon Eastern on Tuesday, the markets suggest a 35% chance that Kaine will be nominated for the number two slot. That’s up from 23% yesterday and 10% earlier in the week.

At the same time, prospects for Evan Bayh to be nominated have fallen sharply. Expectations for Bayh to win the nomination are down to 25%.

These results are from a prediction market—not a poll—and are updated on a 24/7 basis by market participants. You can participate in these markets today—it costs nothing to join.

Continuously updated results for Kaine, Bayh and other prospects can be found HERE. Tim Pawlenty and Mitt Romney are the top Republican prospects.

The University of Virginia’s Larry Sabato offers an assessment of the plusses and minuses that Kaine could bring to the ticket.

1. I hope not
Nothing against Kaine, but with Obama considered an unknown to many Americans he really needs a well known name as a running mate to blunt the MSM's reinforcement of the McCain camp's assertion that Obama is a risky pick for President.

Kaine has even less name recognition than Obama.

2. Tim who?
The Obama campaign has got to be smarter than this...

And another southern VP pick? I thought this election was about change?
