Is anyone else worried about McCain picking a woman for VP. I think that is really his best bet and |
|
it actually worries me. None of the men mentioned will change his boringness, but if he picks a woman I'm afraid it will get him some extra women votes especially ex Clinton voters.

Obama's group would have a field day with her tenure at HP. She nearly destroyed the company.
And Palin a) just had a baby with Downs, and b) is embroiled in an abuse-of-power scandal where she fired a state trooper who was divorcing her sister. I doubt she'd be up to it.
Whitman? Seriously, has anyone mentioned her name beyond any obscure blogs or this place?

17. If he were better liked by the conservatives, Olympia Snowe would be a great choice |
|
She could easily appeal to the moderate independents. As a JK group person, I have often watched the Small Business Committee hearings and she and Kerry work really well together on those issues - often starting near the same place.
She and Kerry were key to working out the CAFE standard increase last year and she and Kerry sponsored the Affordable Housing Fund, which had 21 co-sponsors, that was taken and marked up and put in the Housing bill that just passed. These things could give her credibility among independents and women looking for a woman President. From the committee hearings, she is personable and very very competent.
Fortunately for us, the conservatives who don't like McCain because they think he is not a true conservative would go ballistic.

21. I wish she'd consider being Obama's VP |
|
She'd be a great choice, but I don't think she'd want to run with a Democrat. I would even consider voting for her if I lived in Maine.

2. I am more worried about the vote being stolen! Without cheating |
|
McCain might win if he picks J.H. Christ has his VP, maybe. With all the election fraud, I am very afraid he is going to win. I keep going back to what Mark Crispin Miller said-- These people are in power and they are not leaving!

3. I don't think VP choice will persuade either way. |
|
Disgruntled Clinton supporters are going to do what they are going to do regardless, so giving them another thought in that regard is pointless.
I also think if McBush dips his toe into identity politics purely for the sake of identity politics, he will be disappointed. In fact, I would venture to guess it might even put off the gopswine. However, it would be entertaining to have an airhead like K.B. Hutchison on the dais with McBush.

5. It worries me a bit as well. |

If he goes with Fiorina or Kay Bailey Hutchison it might swing some of those Hillary people who are on the fence.
Sibelius is solid, but a tad bit "boring". Hillary would be excellent, but she did say some vile things during the primary and the GOP will just play back every talking point.

For some reason she's the one black person the red necks actually like.
Thankfully she wants no part of McCain or being his VP.

He hates women. His only choices are Dole and Palin, who I doubt he will pick.
Either way, I am not worried.

Because it would be such a clever political move I doubt he will make it...I think he will pick Mittens or Fuckabee...

There are virtually no Republican women to pick. It wouldn't help him in the end just like picking Ferraro didn't help energize Mondale's campaign in 1984.

20. the GOP base would revolt |
|
Most of the men and half of the women GOP voters would not vote for that ticket. Those voters are already wary of McCain, and Carly recently spoke in favor of contraceptives for women being covered by medical insurance.
I don't see it happening, but if it does, it's 1984 all over again, with McCain reprising the role of One State Mondale.

23. The VP Choice Usually Doesn't Win the Election |
|
but it does fill out the ticket and provide a general sense of the the charater of the administration the voter casts a ballot for.
Except that in the case of McCain, I think choosing a woman would be confusing. It just doesn't go with his personality. It would tie into no theme and I suspect it would look like a tactical political choice.

25. I agree, his best bet |
|
But he can't pick Rice (who really wants it last I heard) because of Iraq. She is one of the people who screwed up the post-combat.
I don't know who he would pick, but if it was a low name recognition woman it could really help him break from the 3rd Bush term label. I hope they don't see that.
