Obama Counters McCain's Gas Attack Ad

Obama Counters McCain's Gas Attack Ad

Two interesting things about Barack Obama's (not quite) new counterpunch against McCain's gas prices attack (via Ben Smith):

1. As Ben notes, Obama's "new" ad has been running for two days. So for those who've been wondering when the Obama campaign will respond to McCain's attack ads, well, they already have.

2. Obama's ad counters McCain's gas attack ad, not the Landstuhl one. Despite all the attention we've paid to the troops ad, the gas attack ad McCain is actually emphasizing in his ad rotation. The troops ad is just a free media play.

Here's the ad, airing in the same markets as McCain's-at link (I can't find the youtube yet)

7. No kidding, I have not seen the ad once anywhere. I just saw a free McKeating5 ad
on the MSM not ten minutes after getting home. The neg sh$t works. Throw it out and the media will play it into the ground because it's controversial.

2. Why no linking McCain to Bush? Why no mention of McCain's connections to the big oil companies?
Missed opportunity

4. Is that a TV ad or web ad?
Why isn't Obama putting out an ad like that?

5. Maybe he's saving his money for where/when it might count most.

But I agree, I wish he'd get some ads out blasting McCrabby.

Edit: I don't know where that ad is being shown. Can't seem to find any info on it.

9. I think he is saving it.
I mean, he's up in all unrigged polls right now - Most elections are decided once and for all late. As long as Obama has a more or less unanimous 3 to 8% lead depending on which poll you're looking at, it would be folly to bring it all out now. If the lead slips consistently over the course of a few weeks, bring out heavier artillery. Otherwise, keep going as he is now.

Say Obama maintains a small but solid lead until the debates start - It's more or less certain that he'll show McCain up at that point so why not double up and hammer home his advantage by airing wall to wall ads blasting McCain's myriad errors and pathetic changes of position?

6. That ad is a total waste, you have to keep them
Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 05:53 PM by doc03
simple so Americans can understand them. The McCain ad where they talk about gas prices then show the reason a picture of Obama and people chanting O-ba-ma O-ba-ma. Now the rednecks can understand that one.

on edit here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hOS9AMGWck It may be BS but it works with Joe Six Pack

10. I work with a republican ...
... who said he is ashamed of the campaign ads that McCain is running. Even he can see that McCain is grasping desperately at nothing.

11. Weak ad imo.

There is really not much of a counter in this ad. Could talk about how McCain and the Rep party are in the pockets of big oil who are reaping the benefits of everyone misfortunes. This plans does not goes into specifics of what Obama plan is.

Right now, when I think of McCain and Obama energy plan for this energy crisis:

McCain is for more drilling in American.
Obama is for ?
T Boone Pickens is for wind.

Obama wants to use a different campaign strategy, but if there are no repercussions to McCain's lies then McCain will continue doing so and he'll be one shaping people vision of Obama's character and positions.

...

Sorry, I'm a little grumpy at the moment, long day at work.
