A little background on Governor Kaine:
The article I found says he was a lay missionary working with the Jesuits in Honduras in the early 80's. I don't have more detailed info on Kaine, but on December 2, 1980, four Catholic Churchwomen, Sister Ita Ford, Sister Maura Clarke, Sister Dorothy Kazel and Jean Donovan; were raped and murdered in El Salvador. On November 16, 1989, six Jesuits were murdered along with their housekeeper and her daughter. Who trained the death squads? Why, the School of the Americas!

Here's a link with more info, but be warned, it's pretty graphic.

We could do worse than have someone who has seen the underside of US foreign policy as VP!

3. Too many people here think all Catholics are in lock step with the bishops.
I'm planning on taking a public stand in favor of same sex marriage this week. Wish me luck, I'm going in!

good job, and agreed on your subject line. Catholics, in reality, come in a rainbow of colors!

4. I'd like to know what he thinks of our involvement in Colombia today!
The Jesuits are a funny bunch. Some of them are very right wing, but not the ones who were on the ground in Central America! There's a reason they were targeted by death squads!

5. that too, yes.
I know he's Maryknoll, but I've admired Roy Bourgeois for a long time - if Kaine even has a soft spot for SOAWatch, he moves up on my list.

6. Kaine rocks
Check for yourself, this seems mostly accurate

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Kaine

He wins elections and gets enemies to compromise. He is pro Smart growth.

He is not perfect but has led a tremendously refreshingly transparent life

He has scruples and a firm code of ethics, something the country needs craves desperately.

He takes his family out to PUBLIC parks for recreation and he is an enthusiastic do-gooder.

I vote for him every chance I get
