4. Wouldn't he be better used as Sec of Defense?
Or is he not eligible? (Judging from recent persons in that job, one could reach the conclusion that individuals with substantial military experience are disqualified.)

6. Clark would be GREAT. But some folks in the inner circle seem to have vetoed him.
Maybe there was something he said during the primaries??

10. "Well, I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be
president."

What does being a vietnam prisoner have to do with qualifications of being president??

20. A more truthful statement has rarely been spoken, yet
few Democrats seemed willing to step up to defend him...very disheartening.

11. Wes has had 'problems'
with 'inner circles' thru his entire life; seen as too smart by many, too handsome by some, too damn good by others.

AND he's been reps worst nightmare forever.

8. cenk is, tho unusual, WRONG here.
IMO, General Clark was speaking what should have become recognized as an interesting truth, especially useful for dems. Instead, media ran with it as hot/sexy issue, to the great loss of all of us, and dems failed to pick it up and use it as major pov re: mcC.

18. No comparison
If any of those milquetoasts gets the nod, that big sucking sound you'll hear is enthusiasm waning from the campaign.

22. Bayh, Biden...milquetoasts?
Something to keep in mind:

Al Gore and Dick Cheney were also very bland VP picks, but they did absolutely no harm to their respective tickets, and in fact HELPED Bill Clinton and George W Bush amongst swing voters, indendepenets, and moderates and were re-elected twice.

Do you want to know why? They were choices not based on geography or "enthusiasm" but ability to govern and their functional expertise they brought to the tickets.

Kerry, the most boring politician on earth, got more votes than any other democrat, ever.

19. If the economy, however, is the main theme of the 2008 campaign..
Wes Clark may be a poor choice as a running mate, since this will be similar to the 1992 presidential election "Its the economy, stupid".

Swing voters, moderates, and independents who will vote primarily on the economy will not be impressed with Clark on the ticket.

He is much more than a retired general. He can talk economic issues as well as military. Too many people underestimate Wes Clark---and the republicans would at their own peril.

23. Combated the surge argument
Wes did an outstanding job combating the Obama didn't support the surge! argument. I rarely watch the MSM anymore, but on the same day I saw Bayh and Clark defend Obama against this stupid charge. Bayh was completely not up to the task. Vapid and milquetoast. Clark was forceful, brilliant, and charismatic.

Clark would be a good contrast. Outstanding military background, outstanding diplomatic expertise, older and perhaps perceived as "more experienced" (think of Lloyd Bentsen for Dukakis). However, generally vp's are picked because they will help bring a home state's electoral votes and thus help clinch an election. Clark probably can't do that, but he could bring a lot of the military vote and may help tip the scales in rural areas and the south.

27. I don't believe 2 minorities on the same ticket works well. An older white guy with military
would put some of the "on the fence" voters more comfortable.

26. I can think of better but he'd be a solid pick
To be honest, assuming an honest vote count, I think Obama's going to get such a landslide that he could probably get away with picking Sparky the Wonder Goat.

Clark is a solid choice and undercuts much of McCain's "war hero" persona.

Maybe the fake controversy over his statement has died down enough. Who knows?
