I will be at the polls BEFORE they open, waiting in line to vote. Then I will probably drive people to the polls OR videotape different precincts. Then I will probably go to a watch party that night to celebrate and get TOASTED.

What will you be doing that day?

3. I'll be working the polls, but after...
I don't know whether to go to an 'official party' or get drunk at him with y'all.

9. Champagne will definitely be on the menu for me that night.
Lots of it. If I go out I will probably still be thinking, "I wonder what they're saying on DU?"

I'm so lame.

12. Here in MO, we pretty much know who our governor will be.
We will finally have another Dem back in the governor's mansion. He ain't all that, but he will do. My local folks will be going back. No competition.

6. Given some of the rumors lately, maybe getting really drunk for the first time in my life.
Maybe I could just stay drunk for four years. It runs in my family, anyway.

11. Hopefully out in the field in Virginia
I told my boss the other day that he needs to send me out into the field on Election Day, and reminded him that in 2006 I drove everyone nuts on Election Day because I was cooped up in the office waiting for the results and really nervous and anxious all day, and I didn't even have any kind of emotional attachment to any of the candidates in 2006 the way I do now (the presidential vote is always more personal than the others, IMO). So I said that I am going to be a basketcase if I'm cooped up in the office, so hopefully he'll send me to help the field staff with GOTV in Virginia.

16. In 1968
I sat up watching the returns in my dorm room in college. I couldn't believe that this country would put Richard Nixon in the white house. I was dumbfounded. I had so much confidence in my countrymen. It was a very sobering time for me. I spent about three hours walking around the quiet streets of that little college town feeling miserable that I had been so trusting and hopeful.

I'm going to pray that it won't be that way for so many of the freshly minted political enthusiasts that have sprouted up this election. But we are up against a more powerful media machine and more deeply entrenched money culture than then. I'll be working the polls, but I'm far from as convinced as so many of the youngsters are now.
