Check in here if you support Obama for president but still like Hillary....
and support her as a Democrat.

Because if you don't support her as a Democrat, you really can't consider yourself an Obama supporter, since she's got quite a few engagements planned to rally support for him.

Here's a little common sense for you: you aren't betraying Barack by liking Hillary. Most of us know that, except for a few Knights of Umbrage who have spasms anytime that Hillary is mentioned.

Hillary will be a dandy leader in a Senate with at last a true Dem majority. And with a Dem president, she will be a powerful advocate to the issues she and we hold dear.

Are why I did not vote for her in our primaries. I voted for Edwards.

Now I am supporting Obama and will accept whoever his people select for VP.

All sides did things that were questionable.

Hillary Clinton is an incredible leader, but she isn't perfect.

A fact that DU points out WAY too often, and smears her with.

All of the Hillary supporters I know easily transferred their support to Barrack.

However, if Obama has representatives locally like some of his supporters at DU, it could be the aggressiveness and rudeness that causes their hesitance.

We have some very young campaign workers and that is good but I don't think that they can quite comprehend us 'oldsters'. I would like to have a 'house party' with only Hill supporters and see if that would be successful. I just hate to put it out there and have a flop. Peace, Kim

27. Beacool posted an interesting assessment earlier
I will try to find it...she tried to explain how some of Hillary's supporters are feeling and why they are so resentful. Some of you will just say that they are being babies or were Republicans to begin with, but I can sympathize with why some of them are so upset and I think it's important that we as Obama supporters understand what they are going through if we are going to try to win them over. I am happy to see you ask this question and be inclined towards reaching out. I've been frustrated with some Obama supporters who seem to take the attitude that we don't need to work for Hillary's voters and they should just fall in line. This attitude comes from the grassroots level and does not reflect any sentiments from the official campaign.

We had a house party and there were several people who had backed Hill there. I for one was a Kucinich supporter before working for Obama. It seemed to help that all of us were not Obama originals. So many here have had at least one other favorite. I just wish that we could make it over the hump. We really need people on the streets over the next three months. Peace,Kim

24. I have such a love-hate relationship with her
and have since before Obama came into the picture. I grew up admiring her when she was First Lady, and to this day, I admire her strength and tenacity and grace under fire. At the same time, I always felt like she wasn't quite genuine or authentic enough, and I started out trying to support her at the beginning of the primaries but could never quite get comfortable with her. Right now I continue to admire her in many ways, and part of me feels really sorry for her. But try as I might I don't fully trust her. I appreciate her efforts on behalf of Barack but I think she needs to do more to discourage the PUMA movement and that she could do more than she's doing to keep her top donors from grandstanding to the press about why they're not supporting Obama. At the same time, I recognize that it must not be easy for her to go out and stump for the man who deprived her of her dreams, and I appreciate her willingness to do it.

I know that wasn't the effusive praise you might have been looking for with this thread, but I really have very conflicting feelings about her, and I hope you don't mind me being honest.

voted in the primary. I think either Hillary or Barack would make great Presidents. I ended up voting for Barack, and I have nothing against Hillary or any of the other candidates who ran. I'm having a real hard time understanding why anyone would be so bitter as to even say they will vote for McNuts because Hillary isn't the Dem candidate! I honestly think the people saying that were Rush fans who voted for Hillary to sctew up the Dem primary and they're pissed that they failed!

And if she had gotten the nomination I'd be working for her as hard as I'm working for Obama.

That seems to make me a bit different than a few (not all or even most) of her supporters here at DU.

see posts 29 and 40 in this thread for evidence of someone who may "support" Obama (although there is some evidence to suggest otherwise) but says she doesn't 'like' him and isn't supporting him as enthusiastically as she'd have supported HRC.

I'll try again:

I said that I am an Obama supporter (and just to clarify--I've been one since before the VA primary in Feb) but that if HRC had gotten the nomination I'd have worked for her just as hard as I've been working for Obama.

I added that my willingness to support HRC as much as I've supported Obama makes me different from a few (not all or even most) HRC supporters here at DU.

WHen challenged, I provided a link to posts by a Hillary supporter who makes no bones about the fact that she is not as enthusiastic about Obama as she was about HRC.

Clear enough for you?

for Obama in the GE and he will get the donations I would have made to HRC had she gotten the nomination. It's the action that counts, not the level of enthusiasm behind it.

However, i've 180'd on her profile. Its probably a symptom of absence making me grow fonder of her. I like Hillary for the VP pick, and she may be the best of the group mentioned so far.

I mean we're 2 months in and there's still this anti-Obama fervor among Dem groups. No better way to to bring those folks aboard than to get Hill.

83. Love Hillary and wish she were the nominee
Every day I think how much more enjoyable it would be with Hillary atop the ticket. I frequent sports sites and while the right wingers desperately post anti-Obama threads every day, you can tell they are more or less going through the motions. I parry their threads and they barely protest. With Hillary it would be frantic hatred and I'd relish every syllable.

Hillary would be cruising, make no mistake about it. The one aspect of Obama's win that I'm not looking forward to are all the ignorant buffoons here who will insist Hillary would have been defeated. Between the fraud crew asserting Obama should have won by 5 points more and the anti-Hillary morons insisting McCain would have thrashed her via relentless GOP turnout, DU is going to be open season on garbage.

Still, I realize the latter position is one of the spoils of backing the winning candidate throughout.

she's a high level asset for the party and I've helped to pay off her debt and encouraged other to do so as well.

I'm disappointed in the Senator and my trust in her has waned significantly but I still support her and want her on our side. I find the everybody just hates/is intimidated/always despised Hillary as disingenuous logic. Most people I know share my sentiments and were or were planning to work to get her elected at least in the the general.
I don't know a lot of personality driven Democrats though. Most of us just want to drive back the heathens and live under something resembling the Bill of Rights, the figurehead mattering pretty much parallel to effectiveness in doing the right thing by the citizens.

It continues to amaze me how she (or anybody really) invokes so much passion in people.

upset about the primaries, if you don't support HIM as the presumptive Democratic nominee, then you can't consider yourself a Democrat. I'm happy that she is coming around and rallying the troops. But I would also like to see her go after McSame for his outrageous lies and antics.

Since she did a lot of damage to Obama during the primaries by praising McSame, she needs to take on some of the responsibility for that. This means attacking McSame's lies and smears against Obama when he commits them. Her doing so makes a strong case that the Dems are unified and that she does not condone Repukes' Rovian tactics!!

I don't believe that admiring Hillary is betraying Obama and it shouldn't be an issue either way.

93. I liked her FISA vote, and that she returned to the Senate in 2 weeks. I am really
hoping she moves to the left, and becomes a liberal champion in the Senate. Never mind triangulation & ambition; how about returning to her roots.

I am not in NY, so what I think is largely irrelevant, but if she does something good, I will praise her for it.

Making the transition from Hillary to Barack has been hard for me, but I'm there now with Barack.

I'm sort of new to DU, and started here in the middle of the primaries. It's hard to feel a part of this community at best, but trying to get over Hillary, support Barack and feel enthusiastic about it, ,,,, well, all I can say - it's not easy.

I will always support and admire Hillary, but I sure as hell want to see Obama elected.

Thanks for the post, Maddy.

98. I'm not trying to parse words, but liking and supporting are not the same things...
Prior to the campaign I was somewhat ambivalent, but open, towards Hillary... as I was towards every candidate (except for my guy - John Edwards). But she did a few things during the course of her campaign that turned me sour and made me begin to really dislike her.

Do I like Hillary as a person? No.
Do I like her as a candidate for President? No.

But she is a strong female Democratic Senator and a pretty good one. Her FISA vote really impressed me and she won a lot of people's respect by voting the way she did. I genuinely appreciate her support of the LGBT community.

So no. I don't LIKE her, but I do support her as a Democrat and believe we are better off for her service. I hope she gets re-elected to the Senate and that she begins to take more of a leadership role there.

I guess like with bosses and co-workers, I don't have to LIKE a person to respect their work.

I think she'd be much more likable if she would step up and tell PUMA and the like to STFU.

I still hope she'll be on the ticket as VP because I do not have complete confidence in Obama's ability to defeat McCain if she isn't his running mate. He will need her help to unite the party, and nothing he can do will make it as clear to her supporters that he wants a united party as asking her to be his VP.

She's a great woman, a wonderful politician, and a credit to our party.

Voted for Senator Clinton in the primaries, and was really hoping she would would the nomination. I don't think she's going to be on the ticket, but I hope she has a long and illustrious senate career.

Things are settling down now, and nearly every Clinton supporter I know is planning to vote for Obama. I will work on the few hold-outs who are planning to vote for Nader. In addition to being very angry about being branded racists and Republicans by fellow Democrats for not supporting Barack Obama during the primaries (as am I but trying to let it go), they are outraged by Obama's recent position on FISA. I will do everything I can to make certain they vote for Obama in November. I think I can do it, because I understand their anger and bitterness, but I can appeal to their sense of the larger picture.

We need more Clinton supporters like you to help convince the holdouts. You have a lot more credibility than I do talking to these people because you supported Senator Clinton in the primaries.

Since you are new to DU, you may not have seen my post about this before. I created some t-shirts, stickers, and buttons for Clinton supporters like you, for sale on Zazzle and CafePress. They say "Hillary Has My Heart, Obama Has My Vote". In the spirit of party unity, I am donating the proceeds from these products to Clinton for debt relief. 108. I'm checking in. There was only one reason she wasn't my
choice for the nomination and that's the IWR vote. But I think she's a fine person and a fine democrat. I also think she's incredibly intelligent and hardworking. I think she got some bad advice from Penn and her husband during the primaries. And I think it is to her great credit that she was not very comfortable with it. And hey, if my husband were Bill, I'd listen to him, too. Who wouldn't? So I'm not finding much at all to diss her about and I have no reason to even want to do that. She will continue to be a powerhouse for years to come and we can all be grateful for that because we need her as a force to guide public policy in the right direction.
