61 Obama lies
Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 05:05 AM by Wetzelbill
This is what I had to deal with when I responded to a myspace bulletin by somebody who I added as a friend to be part of my mafia crew in the game Mobsters. I should have known since her profile name included "McCain In '08" in the title.

Often I consider myself above that stuff. And we got along pretty well.

The she sent out the "61 Obama Lies" bulletin.

So I sent a friendly message, said "You know this is not true. :) " and a few minutes later sent her the link from Snopes to prove it. (version Obama's 50 Lies)

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/50lies.asp

She sent back a message saying she respectfully disagreed and I replied to look at my link.

Then I got this huge message back about how Obama is a liar and going down a list of several of the supposed lies and asking me to disprove them. Well my link already did, but then I responded back and disproved them.

Not good enough.

Then she refused to believe anything, didn't read the link, asked if I had proof.

She deleted me, I blocked her and sent out the Washington Post arcticle today that says that McCain's charge that Obama wouldn't visit the troops because he wanted to bring cameras was false. I sent that because that was the one she harped on.

So next time, remind me to do two damn things. Don't add to my friend's list people who are blatant and rabid McCain supporters and if by some chance I do, don't ever respond to stupid bulletins.

But honestly read a few of them, they're moronic. I should have just let it pass. I'm an idiot.

1. If someone like that "unfriended" me, I'd consider it a chracter endorsement.
:hi: Bill!

2. you know what makes me sad

On her page she has a memorial and a pic dedicated to her husband who died in Iraq last year. And she still was a rabid McCain supporter. Ugh!

So how are you anyway? I should at least try to sleep, lol.

3. That's sad,
but some people never learn.

I'm okay, except for the fact that it's grocery shopping day. x(

Get some sleep, young man! :pals:

4. Her grief and anger is too raw. I would let her be.

5. I don't think it had anything to do with grief or anger
She just refused to believe something as simple that Obama wasn't a Muslim, even if you showed her proof. Wouldn't even look at it. Just your basic close-minded Republican.

6. If her husband died a year ago in a war that was waged for greed and oil she may
not be ready to hear the truth. Hounding her is not gonna help and I think it's a bit cruel.

I understand you want to help Obama get elected but you can't change everyone. There are plenty of people out there with more open minds who are in a better place to hear you.

9. I didn't hound her
More like the other way around. She sent something out, I told her it was false and provided a link, and she wigged out and kept sending messages to me after that. She wouldn't drop it until I was forced to block her.

7. Instead of arguing with her- just be her friend
She is grieving and hurting, now is not the time to talk politics with her, even if she initiated it.

8. on a side note:
remember the old (early internet, anyway) ad that had a lady in a big hat, looked like Bella Abzug (for those who would know), you know, big nose, flabby cheeks, lots of lipstick, etc....who was saying "On the internet I'm 23, 36-24-36, with long blonde hair"...

I have found that I ignore personal 'validation' symbols of people I don't know...maybe her husband got killed, which is a true tragedy...but, maybe not...

old saying: once you are 50 miles from your hometown, you can be anybody...no one will know the difference...

i would not spend much time arguing with someone who refuses to check facts...and i also would not feel bad about exposing that person to the facts (not necessarily argumentatively) regardless of their emotional 'justification'...

you gave her a chance, she gave you a chance (so to speak)...you were wise to move on...

don't worry too much...there are plenty more where she came from...

11. well I was fortunate
She's nobody I even knew. I just added her because we both played Mobsters. Yeah once I dropped it and she started wigging out on me I had to get out of that. Literally, she sent a bulletin out, I saw it and sent her a link letting her know it was inaccurate and she didn't take too kindly to that. You just have to get away from someone like that as soon as possible.

12. Authoritarians cannot cope with anybody who believes differently
They live in their own little constructed world of lies and delusions. They want others to join this world so they have somebody to talk to and reinforce their beliefs - an echo chamber. Any disagreement must be punished.
