OK, DU. Let's analyze that Milbank hit piece a little more closely.
"This is the moment . . . that the world is waiting for," adding: "I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions."

A snippet from his Berlin speech combined with a snippet of his slogan, plus the idea of the possibility of America returning to its best traditions and thrown together in a big salad of hubris. It is too pat, too obviously made up and fed on a fork to a pompous jerk of a reporter.

Obama is too damn smart to come off with a line like that. Particularly in a week where the Repub operatives are trying to tear down Obama's great trip abroad.

This is part of a script, folks...hopefully somebody else will smell the rat here and reveal it for the complete lie that it is...

1. This is what actually happened in that meeting; Milbank
fails to mention any of the meat of the meeting, but that is of course intentional. God forbid he mentions the possibility of responsible government, gotta go for the snark.

2. I'm glad that
Obama said that. It's true. And it is what a lot of Obama supporters have been saying for a long time.

3. But did he say it? It was attributed by an unidentified source.
Don't believe it until you have further proof. At least that's the way I think right now...

5. The pushback from people in the room is finally starting.
"But, a Democrat who was in the room tells The Page: “His entire point of that riff was that the campaign IS NOT about him. The Post left out the important first half of the sentence, which was something along the lines of: ‘It has become increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign, that the crowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me at all. It’s about America. I have just become a symbol … .”'

7. There is another OP
that provides the full quote. I think it is exactly right, and that is why the opposition is so upset.

10. Leaving out the preceding sentences DISTORTS the quote entirely.
It becomes a totally different sentiment entirely. The way it was twisted makes it a lie...

4. I cannot believe how the media is ratcheting up the attacks on Obama and
taking every single word he says, twisting, turning, analyzing and McCain can basically accuse Obama of being a traitor and wanting to lose the war and they don't even bug him about accusing another US Senator of it. McCain can constantly make gaffes, say the wrong things, nothing from the media. Before Obama took the trip, all they talked about was how dangerous it was for him to make a misstep of which he did not so then he became presumptuous, arrogant, elitist, etc.

The media is even becoming more unbelievable than what I thought in this election.

11. same tactic used during the primaries against him.
when the opposition realized she was up against a powerhouse and wouldn't glide into victory effortless, the flailing about and inconsistency started. Throwing everything she could at him, cheap shots, distortions and all, but he managed to duck it all and win. While the media also played alongside the opposition, what with the relentless coverage of the nonstory Rev Wright, etc., they were just support. Now they are on full offense.

so I am hoping he can overcome this enemy, the media, as well. but this one is waaaay tougher than any Clinton.

This will be Obama's biggest challenge

Spinning 'symbolism'

From Playbook:

THE GOP IS VERY EXCITED ABOUT a quote that The Washington Post runs on both a blog and in the paper, in which Obama supposedly tells House Democrats: “I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions.”

BUT A DEMOCRATIC SOURCE SAYS: “His entire point of that riff was that the campaign IS NOT about him. left out the important first half of the sentence, which was along the lines of: ‘It has become increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign, that the crowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me at all. 8. It's on MSNBC at 7:02, it's in the loop now.
Even with the full text, however, it really just helps perpetuate the smear, IMHO.

9. They can't win using facts... so they lie and twist the truth
It's really pathetic.
