McCain wears $520 Ferragamo Loafers
Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 11:32 AM by RamboLiberal
Let's Play: If I Were a Right Wing Blogger - Christoper Hayes

If I were a right-wing blogger, and I found out that Barack Obama was wearing Ferragamo loafers that cost $520, I would spend about 50% of my waking hours making sure everyone knew this. I would mock him for being an out-of-touch elitist and make jokes like, "If you think that's a lot, you should see how much his purse costs " I would send the link to Drudge and wait for Instapundit to pick it up, and then watch gleefully as Fox News ran segments about how Barack Obama's $500 loafers vitiate his entire economic platform.

But of course, I'm not a right-wing blogger. And the $520 shoes belong to John McCain. And frankly, I don't think how much his shoes cost matters one whit for how he'd govern the country.

http://www.thenation.com/blogs/jstreet/340726/let_s_play_if_i_were_a_right_wing_blogger

This summer John McCain is traveling in style. He has worn a pair of $520 black leather Ferragamo shoes on every recent campaign stop — from a news conference with the Dalai Lama to a supermarket visit in Bethlehem, PA. The Calfskin loafers, with silver-tone "Gancini" buckles, are imported from Italy.

In response to Barack Obama's foreign tour, McCain spent much of his energy last week emphasizing his focus on domestic issues. What better way to show his American pride than to tour the country in Italian leather?

20. comfortable only if he's got very narrow feet,
Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 12:00 PM by mcg
many men's shoes are not ergonomically designed, wearing "fashionable" shoes helped mess up my big toes. I had an operation on my right big toe. Now I wear either very wide shoes or very soft flexible shoes. It's not just women who get hurt by shoes.

$300 is the most I've ever paid for shoes, and that's when I had some $$$.
$200 will buy very nice shoes.

7. and cindy wears $3000 suits
Cindy McCain said she favors suits made by the German designer Escada, which typically retail for around $3,000 a pop. If she becomes first lady, she told Vogue she may switch to an American designer, possibly Carolina Herrera, whose suits are comparably pricey.

11. If the MSM made even attempt at "fair and balanced". . .
...this would be getting at least at much attention as the Obama elitist meme (which, by the way, is based on what?) or even the Edwards $400 haircut.

But, no, the MSM figure it's not relevant that McCain spends more on loafers than most people pay for all the shoes in their closet... or for that matter that the McCains ownthe 9 mansions. You would think such facts were classified information the press wasn't allowed to mention!

15. Are there no US made shoes good enough for John McCain?
There used to be a thriving shoe industry here in Maine. It may not have been the best work in the World but thousands of Maine families made a living sewing shoes when there was little else to be had for work.

Those days are gone, thanks to the wealthy capitalists that support John McCain.

31. The fact that they cost $520 isn't nearly as damaging as the fact that they're loafers. They may...
make certain people (i.e. me) believe that he's now too old to handle bending down to tie his shoes. My grandfather sports loafers for exactly that reason.
