If you have a moment, please conatct The View re: Obama's prayer
http://abc.go.com/daytime/theview/ask

They were discussing how wrong it was for him to release his prayer for publicity.

Here is a link to some articles stating the prayer was stolen, he didn't release it.

http://www.jewishjournal.com/politics/article/obamas_note_at_the_western_wall_asks_for_gods_guidance_200807251/

The yeshiva student who pried Barack Obama’s prayer note from the Western Wall apologized Sunday.

Identified only by the first initial of his name, Alef, and with his face obscured, the student went on Israel’s Channel 2 television to confess that he took the presidential contender’s note last week and passed it to the press.

The resulting coverage of Obama’s private, handwritten musings on hope and sin added to the mystique of his campaign visit to Israel but drew international criticism, including from leading rabbis who said Jewish morality had been compromised by the publication.

http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/stumper/archive/2008/07/29/israel-reacts-to-obama-s-private-prayer.aspx

The theft--by a student at a local yeshiva--was quickly condemned by the religious figures in charge of the wall. "The notes placed between the stones of the Western Wall are between a person and his maker," Shmuel Rabinovitz, the rabbi who manages the site, told a local radio station. "It is forbidden to read them or make any use of them." Rabinovitz and his colleagues do occasionally round up the notes to make more space, but those prayers are then buried unread on the nearby Mount of Olives. In Obama's case, the yeshiva student ultimately returned the note, but by then newspapers around the world had published its contents.

he violated one of the most sacred rituals in all of judaism and should be excommunicated from the Jewish faith. He is now a heretic and is forever cursed. I dare say many ortodox Jews would now believe he is going to hell for his transgressions.

13. it's unbelievable!
of all the shit that happens during a campaign, this deeply troubles me - the fact that a tv production like this WOULD MAKE SHIT UP - i know news shows do it all the time, but I consider the view more like a variety or entertainment show, not a news one.

many will believe it even if they apologize tomorrow - that's the way misinformation is spread. Get the big lie out loud and clear and hardly whisper the correction.

I wonder how Joy reacted to this as she is one of the level headed ones there.

What in the name of God is wrong with all of you! Why would you say that a presidential candidate would have his own prayer stolen? All of you, every single last one of you should apologize for promoting misinformation in a public forum.

You do this after you enjoyed the outstanding ratings the appearance of Michelle Obama gave your show a few weeks ago. You smiled in her face and kissed her ass well and good when it was to your benefit. You then turn around slap the Obama's in the face by promoting a bunch of Republican lies with the same cheesy sh*teating grins.

Disgusting, the lot of you.

Because you ladies seem to be ignorant about the stolen prayer note, allow me to give you a few links so that you can educate yourselves on the facts.

Facts, ladies is what the American people want to hear, not the Neo-Con, right-wing M$M (MainStreamMedia).

Here ya go:

Stop being a part of the neo-con problem and become part of the solution.

26. Here's my message to The View
What evidence do you have that the Obama campaign released his prayer to the media? The McCain campaign perhaps? Or Sean Hannity/Fox News?

And to further state that since Obama is not a Jew , his prayer isn't
confidential is offensive.

http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1215331112489&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

In response, a Ma'ariv spokesman said that "Barack Obama's note was approved for publication in the international media even before he put in the Kotel, a short time after he wrote it at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem. In any case, since Obama is not a Jew, publishing the note does not constitute an infringement on his right to privacy."

Obama's campaign has neither confirmed nor denied whether the prayer published by Ma'ariv was in fact written by Obama. A campaign spokesman, however, made clear that the campaign hadn't approved the publication of any kind of prayer note.

The Senator and his supporters deserve an apology and the matter needs to be addressed on the air.

28. My email to ABC:
I know you like to think of yourselves as journalists and purveyors of news, but you really blew it with the talk that Obama released his own prayer. A simple search would have revealed that Obama's prayer was, in fact, stolen from the wall by a yeshiva student. Here's the link if you're too lazy to get it yourselves: http://www.jewishjournal.com/politics/article/obamas_note_at_the_western_wall_asks_for_gods_guidance_200807251

The mainstream media is becoming more and more pathetic every day. And I expect more from a Barbera Walter's show. Maybe ABC's goal is to keep this election close, but the Center for Media and Public Affairs at Geroge Mason University has shown how partisan and destructive the media has become. Why don't you try providing equal coverage and substantial discussion on both candidates? Oh, probably because the Republicans would kick and scream that you were being "libral." Even though I have lost respect for this network, I know many Americans are still influenced by the petty trash you peddle as news, so as a plea on their behalf I say: stop spreading lies and start reporting facts!

The deal is, the damage is already done. They say it and 500,00 morons watching this show tell another 300,000 morons who tell another 500,000 morons and on so and so on. Oh, and then fox picks it up as actual fact and reports how everybody on the view panel picked on poor, wittle wizzie.

46. Video: THE MOMENT Obama prayer snatched from Western Wall
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i7v85iEgvY

=============

And the story:

(snip)

Start here: Ma’ariv’s story from last Friday on the note is still available on line (in Hebrew). It explains how the paper got the note:

As soon as left the wall, a yeshivah student hurried to the stones where the note had been inserted and searched between them until he found the hoped-for note… which has reached Ma’ariv’s hands.

The picture of the note showed it folded and crumpled. Yediot Aharonot, Israel’s largest-circulation paper, was reportedly offered the note and turned it down. Apparently, the yeshivah student was shopping his find around. Yediot is also a tabloid with screaming headlines, not known for its tact, but even its editors knew where to draw the line.

So virtually every paper in Israel was soon publishing that statement from Ma’ariv about how Obama had really handed out the note itself. The statement’s last sentence (take anti-nausea pill before reading) said:

In any case, since Obama is not a Jew, publishing the note does not constitute an infringement on his right to privacy.

Now let’s say I’m a journalist, and I read Ma’ariv’s second version. How should I relate to it?

Well, if Obama really had offered the note to everyone, everyone would have published it, and no one would have been upset. That’s exactly what happened when Pope John Paul II visited the Wall in March, 2000, during his historic journey of reconciliation, and publicized the prayer he inserted between the stones. He made a point of writing it in English. You can find it on the website of the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land, a Church body. No one thought the pope had violated religious custom. The pope’s prayer was meant to be public, so there was nothing untoward in publishing it. It was like printing words of a sermon. Publishing Obama’s words was the equivalent of using a secret mike to capture a whispered prayer.
