That way, all his ad buys will contain both names, and the Olympics won't leave time for endless commentary. The only story outside the Olympics will be the fact that Obama choose his running mate.

It will probably be a few days before the start of the convention, probably the Thursday or Friday before.

Forcing your way through that buzz to dominate a news cycle.. then run some ads with the VP before the convention and you create momentum going into Denver.

Every election before Mondale selectiom, the candidates would selected after the VP after the convention. Why not now? It will steal McCain's attention and we would probably know who McCain would select by then.

I understand the downside ... unity thing and indecisiveness, but talk about a curve ball ... on both sides. :)
