All he has to do is not drool and not die on stage.

The MSM will lower the expectations so low that there is no way Obama makes him look worse than he does now.

They did the same thing to George Bush and it worked.

And the American People will be more interested in "Lost" anyway.

1. It doesn't matter who wins the debates.
It only matters who the media claims won the debates. McCain could die on stage screaming that all Republicans were ignorant fucks and he did indeed have proof that aliens shot Kennedy at Roswell, and the media would talk about his honesty and passion and how strong he looked for a corpse, and he'd still get a boost.

2. I doubt that will happen
because I expect McCain will completely lose his cool live on national television. Full on failure to mnanage anger melt down.

He may even come out with some epithets during a debate.

Obama got him to go off on the Senate floor once before. Hius people know the buttons to push, and they've been pushing them all along.

McCain is building up an outright hatred for Obama. You can see it in his body language and the terminology he chooses whenever he speaks about Obama.

6. I forgot about that
You make a good point. They could be pushing his buttons by not responding they way McCain expects.

7. Exactly. McCain is expecting them to push back
Instead, Obama sloughs it off, makes light of it, and turns it back around (c.f. the Brittany ad).

This only serves to piss off McCain a little more.

By October 15, he'll either publicly melt down or stroke out. If I were a betting man, I wouldn't even put it to the third debate. He may actually blow a gasket in the first debate. The man is incapable of managing anger and you can tell with no doubt whatsoever, he is royally pissed off at Obama. Obama has gotten under his skin and everything that has been happening for the past two months only pisses him off even more. Add to that the fact that he went into this whole thing already pissed off at Obama and you ahve the perfect storm brewing.

10. Very true
He's gone out of his way to appear happy. That's not healthy.

4. I disagree... the RW is pushing the meme that Obama can't think without his teleprompter....

They are talking about how McCain is good in "town hall settings" on his feet and how Obama can only give speeches.

THey are lowering the expectations for Obama..... and he will exceed them by far.

5. People don't watch the debates, they wait for the pundit cliff's notes. But yeah they'll
help him by selecting the best quotes where he looks most with it.

8. Disagree
I have to believe most WILL watch the debates since this is one of the most covered races for president in history. Obama will be very precise and careful as always, and McCain will grit his teeth and regurgitate the same nonsense he's been spewing since the primaries.

9. And Bush STILL managed to underperform, especially in that first debate.
But you're right, though.
