Great article on the topic here:

We are in a great position to get that filibuster-proof majority in the Senate this year, and the loss of a senator to the republicans is NOT an option. That gets rid of Bayh, Reed, and Dodd, all of whom would be replaced by Republicans. I'd like to hear an argument where it would make sense to hurt ourselves to pick somebody who isn't necessary for Obama.
Tim Kaine, I would think, is out as well. Do we want Virginia in the hands of a right wingnut?
In the end, we're looking for someone who COULD help Obama, but will NOT hurt Obama.
So who does that leave?

Understand, I really do not want her as VP; but, she is the obvious choice.

8. She's too polarizing. Rethugs hate her. I think it would damage Obama's crossover appeal.
He needs somebody who won't upstage him.

9. "We" don't pick anybody for VP. It's Obama who get to make the choice as to who his VP will be.
His and his alone. I trust him to make the best choice and it is not up to anyone to tell him who he can or should pick or who he should not pick.

10. Edited because you're right.
I still don't think he should pick somebody who helps out the Republicans.

11. how about someone competent to be president who helps Obama get elected
I'd take that over a state or national seat in congress or the senate.
