I'm starting to think Tim Kaine was just a really good fake by the Obama team.

Poll question: I'm starting to think Tim Kaine was just a really good fake by the Obama team.
I see two possible scenarios as to the surge in chatter about Tim Kaine as VP lately.

1)Tim Kaine actually is in serious talks, or has already been asked and accepted, the vice presidential slot. If this is true, he's a buffoon for parading himself around in the media, or even talking about it. This would be bad, in my opinion. It would show he has little tact for the sensitive art of information control.

or (tin foil hats on, people)

2)Tim Kaine is actually just a "hey look over here!" distraction. He, on behalf and at the request of the Obama team, makes a lot of noise about his vice presidential chances/aspirations/talks etc. to distract from whoever Obama really is going to choose. This would be done in an effort to make McCain's campaign buy it, and counterselect a candidate that would neutralize Tim Kaine, who Obama could then one up with his own real selection. It could also draw a lot of attention to his schedule as it matches up to Obama's, thereby taking attention off of the actual prospective picks schedule and allowing a meeting or talks to go on somewhat more unnoticed.

I don't even really know which one I see as more likely. But it was just something that occured to me.

1. Well, I thought Kaine said more than the campaign would've wanted him to...
...if he was seriously the one.

2. I never learn, but I usually believe people at first blush.
So my take is just what he said -- he's being seriously considered, but the decision hasn't been made.

Obama's campaign doesn't need to throw out any red herrings -- we and the media manufacture them all on our own.

5. Obama headfaked Kaine so that his real VP choice will look great
Obama headfakes a really awful candidate in the media like Tim Kaine, so people will breathe a sigh of relief when he announces a better candidate like Joe Biden or Evan Bayh, who aren't exactly 100% accepted by the DU/Moveon.org wing of the Democratic Party.

7. Kaine v. Biden/Bayh
Kaine doesn't make either one look "great" by comparison.

Furthermore, with his faith based opposition to abortion, and centrist labor policy, Kaine isn't exactly the darling of the moveon crowd.

10. Hmmm...okay you're right
I am first and foremost a secular liberal, so yes a Kaine VP will truly be a disappointment.

9. I like to vote in polls. This is waayyy too complicated for me.
And I'm pretty damned smart. I'm glad it's not me making the decision and I'm glad Obama has a big team of people doing the vetting and figuring out what the best choice would be.

I just hope that whoever it is has a talent for debates. And if they haven't been good at them before hopefully they're getting some tutoring right about now.

12. I think that many of the names that are being given serious consideration,
or nonserious consideration (the ridiculous ones that Liberals and progressives swallow hook, line, and sinker) are misdirection and distraction. What would be a surprise is to have a VP candidate chosen who has already been discounted as a possibility.
