23. HERE: *** WHAT RACHEL SAID *****

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/7/30/185249/836/748/559637

per LizzyPop:

"...that McCain can refer to himself as President, hold weekly radio addresses like a President, and talk about what the world will think after his first-term, and no one calls him presumptuous or arrogant. Yet Obama does far less than that, and he gets called those things. She said there's obviously a lot of underlying racism to it.

She also said that Dana Milbank's quote has been debunked.

Pat Buchanan argued with her, and she said then said "if you see all of those things and don't call McCain presumptuous, yet you say that about Obama, that says more about you than it does about Obama.""

and her ability to connect the dots... and her ability to let her brilliance shine brightly and boldly without so much as a hint of conceit! It's downright miraculous in this day and age!

Pray... meditate... send white light her way... keep her safe. I hate to say it, but she is so brilliant that she is a foe of all that is evil... and evil people do evil, heinous things... unmentionable things.

Love live Rachel!

ago - almost called him a racist prick.

It is soooo delicious - she is taking the MSM - including Milbank - to task for the lopsided, nitpicking bullshit they foist on Obama and letting McCain slide.

I's great; She needs her own show,,,,NOW!!!!

21. Jesus is right. Buchanan is saying Milbank's attacks are the most credible (gag) loose transcript
Rachel says the narrative is that Obama is an empty suit and already thinks he is prez but it is McCain that is running as he is already president, he ran two ads that described him as "President McCain" he gave speeches about what the world will be like at the end of his first term, and running weekly radio addresses like he's already prez. And nobody says "who does he think he is" but everyone is willing to say that about the young candidate, the black candidate in the way that is not driven by how they are acting but by who they are, I really think it reflects a national prejudice.

Buchanan LAUGHS and says, you can tell by Rachel's reaction and Obama responding to McCain's ad which was ineffectual (except you pundits have talked about it NON STOP for 4 days, and ONLY when McCain admits its a lie do you brush it off as ineffectual...its the ad with the lie about gym vs troops and photo ops) shows that it is getting under his skin (change of subject it seems while insulting Rachel) and it is having an effect. The issue is should Obama be prez and McCain is going right at him and Obama knows that the problem he's got and its working to some degree. The more credible people are Milbank and journalists and others "from Obama's own camp" (boy he LOST me with the laugh! so demeaning. Rachel must be steaming)

Obama's campaign is acting like this is working, (like he'd ignore it if it wasn't) it just proves that the stuff McCain is saying is getting to Obama. He should just "brush him off".

Then PAT says the ads from McCain are not working, are not effective (complete contradiction of what he said 1 minute earlier that they must be working or Obama wouldn't respond. He says the Ludicris (sp?) lyrics will really hurt Obama because its from someone in his own camp (yawn) keeps bring up Rev Wright. Says people think Obama is a radical white hater.

Smerconish says my initial reaction was McCain's stuff is so childish but we are not the intended audience and for uneducated ppl who are not paying attention this will impact them.

(then they quote a great piece from Huffington Paul Jenkins saying Obama grew some think skin with these attacks all his life.)

Then Rachel goes after Milbank for not getting the quote right and sets the record straight "its not about me" but Milbank wants to take it out of context and run with it, McCain is presumptuous but no one says "you don't know your place John McCain" it has a lot of racial overtones.

Harold says he doesn't hear it as racial.

Pat corrects Rachel by quoting the bad quote from Milbank,

Rachael says that quote has been disproved.

Smirconish quote from NYTimes when Obama says when I'm campaigning I love to see ppl coming together and "I'm just the excuse" we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

Pat asks if Milbank is doing it for prejudiced reasons, and here you have Obama in a rough patch so he's responding with ANGRY ads which shows these attacks are working.

Rachel says it doesn't matter if they are working what we need to determine is if they are deserved and when McCain doesn't talk to Pat buchanan as being presumptuous when he acts like he's already prez but it does sound that way when Obama says stuff much less presumptuous speaks more about YOU Pat, than it does about the candidates.

(I watched on Tivo and had to skip over much of the program when Rachel was not talking. Drives me nuts. Rachel did say Obama needs to keep it about Bush. Good on Smerconish for coming to Obama's defense, not bad for a republican)

You're welcome.

27. that was VERY good! I saw the whole thing, and missed some of things
you brought up

the key idea in all this is that the pugs ONLY have this sort of smear to run on...to define Obama first as a scary, "exotic" creature who is, above all, UNFIT to lead

the entire campaign will be centered around negative ads like this, outrageous calumnies from the mouth of McC and his surrogates, designed to paint Obama into the same corner they successfully painted Gore and Kerry.

Buchanan knows very well the 'quality' of the ads is immaterial. as they said on PBS Newshour, the POINT of these ads is to get them DISCUSSED on shows like this, which merely plants the seed in the public's mind, JUST like any other TV ad. that
's how marketing works: the more exposure they get, the more effective they are

they can't lose with this approach, and since the 24 hour news cycle, they HAVEN'T

let's see how effective Obama is at fighting both the pugs AND the refs

Then again, I shouldn't be selfish. She'd have a wider audience if she was on teevee. And on AAR, she's preaching to the choir.

35. She is fantastic
Why does this woman not have her own show? She's funny, telegenic, fairly young and smart as hell. And I'm not talking about her guest hosting Countdown either. She should have her own show that she can tailor to her own style. Maybe put "The Rachel Maddow Show" (for lack of a better name) on back-to-back with Keith. If MSNBC is serious about attracting the liberal viewers neglected by the other networks (something that's been rumoured and has worked well with other demographics), giving Rachel her own show should be a no-brainer.
