As Rachel hinted at, there is no PROOF of racism, just proof of a double standard. It's not an affirmation or denial, just giving the benefit of the doubt. Essentially, Harold is saying that McCain is walking on thin ice, but that he's not ready to level a charge of racism at him at this particular point in time. Rachel essentially said the same thing when she said that she "wasn't sure" if it was an element of racism or reverse ageism, but that the double standard was clearly there.
