Did You Miss THIS ONE?
Edited on Fri Aug-01-08 07:05 PM by KoKo01
Assume EVERYONE on DU has SEEN THIS! Incredible Composite of "OBAMA SMASH!"

KUDO's to Josh Marshall and Firedoglake for keeping this ALIVE...and the "funding that allowed it."

TPMtv: Dana Milbank, We Salute You
07.31.08 -- 7:13PM
By Ben Craw

All it took to set off a full 24 hours of cable news hysteria was one quote that the Washington Post's Dana Milbank attributed to Barack Obama - secondhand, unsourced, out of context, and eventually widely disputed. Nice work, everybody ...

Don't MISS THIS ONE! CORPORATE WHORE MEDIA AT THEIR BEST in STEALING ANOTHER ELECTION! (the voting machines are NEXT!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWRRtslRQuo&eurl=http://... /

It's a COMPOSITE of every dirty RW/Corporate Whore/Media ATTACK ON OBAMA...thrown together to show the RW TALKING POINTS! And, it finishes off with Rachel Maddow and Jim Clyburn refuting it all! It's a long watch. Don't give up...watch it and listen until the end. I know it's hard for you "short attention spaners" but DO IT!

:hi:

2. When you are finished with "KO" I hope you'll take time to read this...I had to reply
since no one else did...but I'll only do it this time. It's a MUST WATCH to support our flegling "new media" in their "Little David vs. Mighty Goliath tactics." Just saying....and sad to "hump" my post looking like some pimp, myself.

I love the alliance between Firedoglake and Josh Marshall. I'd always hoped for some synergy to develop on the Left..with our disparate groups. It made me have hope....

Thanks if you view it...it's important for our future and stay with it all until the end of it when Maddow and Clyburn chime in...it's worth it.

THE MEDIA IS THE FUCKING ENEMY. WE SHOULD UNDERSTAND AND NEVER FORGET IT.

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT? THERE MUST BE SOMETHING THAT WE CAN DO.

When Josh Marshall and Firedoglake collaborate...I gotta know "good things are a'comin'

WE are the ONLY MEDIA WE HAVE...for US... We need to remember that after all these sad years. And...we need to support it. So hit the links and go over to Firedoglake and Josh and Media Matters...it feeds to HuffPost and elsewere. SPREAD THE WORD! It's a great MEDIA WHORE COMPOSITE that's up on Josh's site linked from Firedolake with more commentaary about it over there.

Here's from "Firedoglake Site:" links back to "TPM"...

Cable Political Hosts Caught Misleading Viewers
By: Scarecrow Friday August 1, 2008 5:01 am

...............

TPM put together a devastating video that stands as an indictment of the depressing incompetence and lack of professional standards of cable tv "news" hosts.

Every one of the cable hosts caught on that video misinforming their audiences without checking the facts owes the American people a profound apology. If the industry had an ounce of integrity, a lot of folks would be fired for this.

The context was the cable news hosts' self-righteous condemnations of Barack Obama for saying something described as "presumptuous," after the Washington Post's Dana Milbank took out of context Obama talking about his candidacy symbolizing hopes for America.

Milbank's "quote" was reported from hearsay; he wasn't there. Others who were there report a different statement, which when put in context is completely opposite from the interpretation the cable hosts assumed, repeated and piously condemned.

What Milbank reported Wednesday:

Inside, according to a witness, he told the House members, "This is the moment . . . that the world is waiting for," adding: "I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions."

And here, via Media Matters and HuffPo's Jason Links is the context for what Obama said:

ne leadership aide said the full quote put it into a different context. According to that aide, Obama said, "It has become increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign -- that the crowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me at all. It's about America. I have just become a symbol."

As Media Matters documents, the latter statement is consistent with what Obama has said many times. Among those shown in the TPM video, it fell to MSNBC's Rachel Maddow (with help from Smerconish) to sort out fact from fiction. As usual, Rachel gets it right (h/t Nicole at C&L). As for the rest . . .

I thought I was beyond further discouragement, further disgust at the media, but after watching this video -- and it's painful to watch if you're old enough to remember what news used to be -- I can't imagine how we can elevate America's political discourse until every one of these arrogant nitwits is removed from our tv screens and held up to public ridicule for the harm they do to our country.

17. I share what I'm laughing at, and in my tiny circle it has made a difference.
no one I know now believes that crap where they may have a time back.

I cuss the suckers out like a drunken sailor and get some laughs. Then I get serious with some facts, and get some

oh? I didn't know that.

tiny steps.

12. Here's the thing
I'm 35. I have friends in their 20's. Sometimes I'll go out with them to their 20-something bars/meat markets on Saturday night in lower Manhattan, or Hoboken, or Jersey City. It's the BEST Spectator Sport eveeeeeeeeeeer.

So is watching the MSM. Sometimes I watch Faux news. They are FUNNIER than my boyfriend John Stewart. Especially because they're loons who believe their 'Faux News'.

It's about watching the MSM with a 'trained eye'. KWIM? Who ever put that piece together - they have a well trained eye, and a well trained ear. ;-)

14. Yes they do have well trained eye and ear....but you wouldn't be here if you didn't understand
the consequences of just "laughing." You know what's behind it means that "IF THEY WIN AGAIN"...our country is FINISHED...for you and me...parents and grandparents.

So...in one sense I can understand "youthful exhuberance"...party today...because "who knows what tomorrow brings..we could all be dead"...but many of us were like you...until "reality kicks in" which it eventually does...unless one figures on "offing themselves" before that happens. :D

If you get my "drift" on this...having been in your shoes once...myself.

18. Oh
But I don't know that they can be stopped.

I'm in sort of a "mass consumer job". But my education is in Mass Communications and Political Science . . . wanted to a be a speech writer for Bill Clinton. :-) Interned for Slaughter. Campaigned for Clinton in the 2000 Senate Campaign.

When I laugh? It's because I see the b.s.

What doesn't make me laugh? The ignorant and uneducated masses who don't even try to see the b.s. or ask the next question. No one is questioning. They just buy this crap and they don't even try to see how the Roves of the world could just as easily be the CEO of Eric Mower, or the Publisher of Advertising age. And just as the adman gets people to buy ciggy butts, and diet pills that don't work, and the latest and greatest cell phone when the one you have works perfectly fine . . . they get them to buy this b.s. They are so numbed by US and OK and People - and enamored with twinkie celebutants that we've become 'dumbed down'.

My hope in this campaign is that McCain ticks off enough Republicans, leaves them disillusioned - that they just Stay Home come election day.

BTW - Love the avatar. Worship at his altar.

13. That last statement says it all
"Those who don't like him will call him presumptuous, those who support him will call him cool and confident. So what is the point of all of this crap?"

Bravo. Bravo. And that should also include the war against the media being waged by progressives and Freepers alike.

Does no one notice the irony of Repubs AND Democrats both maligning the media as being "in the bag" for the other guy???

20. Yep. Thank you for that.
That says about all we need to know about today's corporate media.

Buchanan is such an arrogant jerk. He said a few weeks ago, in response to Obama's talk on racial relations in America, that black people should be thankful for their history of slavery because it "Christianized" them. The fact that he still has a job after that is all we need to know about today's corporate media.
