I knocked on 50 doors in SW MO this weekend |
|
This is the GOP stronghold down here (Bush won it in 2004 by 71%) but the voters I identified were not typical of this region. Most were unidentified and only a few more McCain supporters were identified. It should be 3 to 1. At any rate, many of the undecideds just need some information and a friendly face.
Most echoed the McCain theme that Obama is inexperienced. Every time they mentioned it I compared Obama's experience with Abraham Lincoln, who before he was first elected had slightly less experience than Obama. They either had to think of Abe differently or change the appraisal of the importance of "inexperience" as it relates to ability to lead. Guess which one they found easier?

|
said she would vote for McCain if she wasn't on the ticket. Right before she shut the door...

8. Would it make sense to tell someone like that to perhaps vote |
|
for Nader or Gingrich instead? At least they would be voting for someone who's different than Shrub!

12. Fantastic! Great Job! |

This is what it will take to overcome Big Media. The ability of Democrats to pound the pavement, and put a human face on this campaign. Yes, negative campaigning works, but face to face contact with people you know works even better than the voice in the tube. For the Democrats to have a chance, we will need thousands of volunteers. We can't simply expect to win a media war fought through Big Media.
