Is there some reason why Joe Sestak wouldn't be the perfect VP choice? |
|
He's a former admiral elected to Congress from a Republican part of Pennsylvania. Is there some fatal flaw about this guy that I don't know about? Have people heard him mentioned much? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Sestak

1. Hmm, don't know much about him |
|
That, by itself, makes him sketchy to me personally. I have no idea what he believes in. Sure, he carries the big 'D' after his name, but so what? Lots of people do that I would not want within light years of the White House. As far as what he brings to the ticket, well, it's an impressive resume. Extremely short experience as an elected official of course, but the Vice Admiral makes up for part of that. I dunno though, I think the nation has moved on from the days where voters think military experience alone is enough.
Then, there's this: "Sestak has also "developed a reputation for being a temperamental and demanding boss" due to reports that thirteen staffers have quit his employment in 2007. Aides are purportedly expected to work seven days a week, including holidays, for 14 hours a day. Sestak justifies these hours, which are considered long even by the standards of Capitol Hill, by presuming to instill a military-minded "toughness" in his civilian staff.". Makes him sound like a bit of a prick if you ask me.

7. I think that for Obama |
|
its the sort of experience he needs more than someone with elective experience.

5. I think a new face could be a good thing. |
|
Someone who hasn't already been defined by the Republicans. Someone who doesn't have a long voting record to dissect.

3. He seems okay, but isn't he already running for re-election? |
|
And I read this on that Wikipedia page you cited.
"Sestak has also "developed a reputation for being a temperamental and demanding boss" due to reports that thirteen staffers have quit his employment in 2007."

6. It might be a difficult seat to keep. |
|
But winning a Presidential election is more important than risking one Congressional seat.

9. I'm more worried about how he'd get trashed in the press. |
|
Having thirteen staffers quit because of your personality does not look good.

And since this is just one Hill article its hard to say how much there is to it. I would imagine moving into managing civilians after a career in the military is difficult.

12. 1. Most America would be going, "Joe who?" |
|
2. Didn't I read here at DU on Saturday that Obama had said his VP pick would not be a surprise?
Joe Sestak would be a surprise and I must admit that I have never heard of him so I would reckon that your average American who has not been paying too much attention does not know him either.

I don't want to give up that seat.
