Am I just biased, or is McCain's strategy of running negative ads during the Olympics tacky? |
|
I was watching the Olympics last night and saw both an Obama ad and a McCain ad. Obama's ad talked about alternative energy, progress and innovation. McCain's was his typical hit job.
Maybe it's just because I'm biased, but it just seemed odd to go from the Olympics, where NBC's coverage is intended to be uplifting and positive (to the point of being a bit overboard), to McCain's nasty, petty attacks.

2. It's a huge mistake IMO.. |

I saw the McDick's pathetic "Celebrity" ad seconds after the amazing 4x100 freestyle gold metal performance by the US. It bummed me out, and I have to assume it bummed everyone out too.
People are going to be pissed with his negativity during the games.

7. That spot is EXACTLY what triggered my post. |
|
The 4X100 relay was unreal, and to follow it up with McCain's petty BS was jarring.

3. Given the spirit of both the Olympics themselves as well as the ads, |
|
McCrepit's ads are startling. They kind of suck the air out of the room--and I'm only watching casually.

4. All of the ads that I saw during the olympics were either Olympic related |
|
or light, breezy and uplifting.....until McCain's.
He sticks out as a negative puss, and combine his with Obama's ad, it makes it look like only one candidate is actually running.
Obama's ads are light, breezy and uplifting, so his fits in well.

5. My sister thought the same thing |
|
...that McCain's mean-spirited ads didn't look good while the Olympics promote world harmony and unity.
But that's what happens when Corporations try to give their guy a leg up through their media outlets. I'm hoping the negativity backfires because of the contrast.

6. McCain is a pathetic slimebag...this negative ad crap fits him perfectly |
|
He is hellbent on running a negative campaign... and is doing it during the Olympics... because he is an ASS.

10. IMO, ANY political ad during the Olympics is tacky |

This is another reason I'm thankful for CBC.

11. I hope it's playing that way to independents, too. Nothing like |
|
a huge wet blanket over all our joy.
Couple that with that stupid Bush interview by Bob Costas. That idiot Bush actually said he doesn't think the US has problems.
So, between McCain looking mean and Bush looking dumb and totally clueless, maybe this will all backfire.

12. Actually, I thought Bush came across better than usual |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-11-08 01:19 PM by Cronus Protagonist
His love for Costas made him seem a little more human and the softball (pre-scripted, I assume) questions must have been a delight for Bush to handle... one dead center softball pitch after another.
McCain's ads, however, sucked the excitement out of the room every time they came on, and one showed a coastline (presumably Texas) full of oil rigs, which is not what us coastal states want to see, whether its on the left or the right coasts. He's appears to actually be boasting about putting rigs in view of the beach, taunting the coastal states. I hope he keeps that up!

13. Of course they were scripted. Have you ever heard Bush string |
|
that many sentences together without totally bungling them? I haven't.
But, that question about problems in the US had to have had the same effect on other people as it did me. He actually said he doesn't think the US has problems - just as we can't afford gas, we can't afford groceries, we're losing jobs, the value of our homes is falling. Not to mention the Iraq money quagmire.
That's when I went to the computer and wrote NBC an email.
